A beautifully carved cinnabar round box depicting a sage and his attendant walking under a pine tree in a waterfront scene. We date this box to mid-Qing Dynasty, 18th century. The box is in very good antique condition, with some expected minor loses and small chips, parts of the rims are retouched. The splayed foot decorated with lotus scroll, the stem with a central spherical mid section carved within two borders of lappets, the body decorated with panels of scholars and attendants within mountainous landscapes. The shoulder and cover decorated with lotus scrolls, the finial in the form of a chrysanthemum blossom. The lacquer over a metal base.

This square form wine cup is lined with silver with a silver rim, now darkened from tarnish. The sides and foot are lacquered black and inlaid with abalone mother of pearl.
