Chinese Qing dynasty ink and color on paper vertical framed painting of three children flying a kite outdoors. The unsigned painting appears to date from the 19th century. The frame size is 52” x 18” (painting: 42 1/2” x 11 1/4"). There is old damage, wear, and soiling visible. Framed in Tucson in the 1990s in a deep, substantial handmade black lacquer moulding. The painting is framed with glass. Purchased in the 1990s from an old Arizona collection.

Chinese Qing dynasty (19th century) export watercolor on paper painting titled “Chinese Junk.” A lone figure stands at the front of the junk tending to the sails. The heads of the rowers are barely visible. Originally purchased from or framed at Berry-Hill Galleries on 5th Avenue in New York. Two rares silver elements with embossed decoration representing scrolls of plants and flowers animated by butterflies and animals which could be rats, dormice or squirrels? It is likely that these 2 elements are the ends of the axle of a paint roller. Chinese goldsmith work from the 19th century or before. Three antique framed written fragments of different sutras from the Tripiṭaka in Chinese translation.
The one on the right is a passage from the Sutra of the Buddha Proclaiming the Names of Buddhas, probably a Chinese translation of the Bhadrakalpika Sūtra. Closest translation:
Śāriputra, passing through a hundred buddhalands, there is a world called Virtue, and there a Buddha called the Arhat of Sunlight Radiance, Samyaksaṃbuddha, is now expounding on the Dharma...

Rubbing taken from a Han Dynasty tomb vault wall depicting an elegant royal mounted entourage being greeted by courtiers. Excellent detail, horizontally mounted as a scroll with textured silk border. The calligraphy translates “Outstanding old scene” signed Zhao Jianchang. L: 197cm/76in x H: 58cm/23in, with mounting-L: 243cm/95in and W: 68cm/27in.

Portrait of ancestor. Painting on paper representing a noble lady. The style of the furniture and its quality suggest that it is an important wealthy family of the 18th century, without however being of the imperial family because the dragons represented on the dress have only 4 claws. The face is admirably painted, the artist played with the light to give us this living-dead head and yet it is beautiful without anything macabre. China circa 1800...

Chinese fan painting of a stand of bamboo growing near a group of moss-covered rocks. A poem written in the upper right hand corner says: 细竹千竿満地 which translates as "A thousand stalks of slender bamboo cover the ground". The seal is a bit hard to make out but appears to read: 鄭 Zhèng. That character seems to also appear towards the end of the text. The next character after it and in the seal is 名 (míng, 'name')...

Antique Chinese fan painting with a poem by Song-dynasty poet Lu You. The original poem was written around 1201 when he was 76 and describes local delicacies from the area where he grew up. The fan is signed on the lower left side by 魏惟一 Wèi Wéiyī and seal: 惟一Wéiyī...

Painted with watercolor on peepal leaf, fixed with an iridiscent glaze, individually framed in a later red lacquer frame. Condition: fine, few traces of usage. Dimension: frame: c. 19.3 x 16.5 cm, leaf: c. 14 cm high.

Painting on woven paper. An unusual and surprising technique. The paper is cut out then this woven paper is painted. However there is a subtlety because in some places only the vertical strips are painted and not the horizontal ones which shows us colored squares alternating with unpainted squares which gives a blurred effect anticipating our "pixels" and which, I think, gave the illusion of a woven fabric...

A peepal tree leaf finely painted in ink, colour and gold, depicting two Buddhist disciples in a landscape setting. Pasted on grey cardboard, with inscription in gold and red seal on the left side. Mounted in a lotus leaf shaped frame and base, carved from hardwood. Condition: lower left corner with a stain, some traces of usage. Dimension: total height: c. 25.8 cm, 19.3 cm wide, Bodhi leaf: c. 16 x 13 cm, weight: 352 g.

Gloriously painted rare round fan of Court maiden in garden with peony flowers and bamboo grove, her beckoning gestures alluding to a secret rendezvous. Reverse with gold flecked silk backed paper, encased in a hardwood frame. Faux bamboo hardwood handle. Good condition.

Charming Chinese ink rubbing of a stone stele depicting a fat cat surrounded by rockery with holes and chrysanthemum flowers after a painting by Jiang Tingxi (1669-1732) that was based upon an earlier work by Ming artist Lu Ji (1477-1505). Jiang’s seal bears the artist’s pseudonym “Nansha.” Likely dates late Qing to Republic period (late 19th to early 20th century). Paper: 24 3/4" x 13 3/4 (image: 21 3/8" x 11 1/4").
