This is an exquisite antique cosmetic jar that dates back to the 19th century and originates from the Bengali region of India. The jar is designed in the shape of a barrel, with a rounded body and three plain legs to support the bowl.

Rama is wearing a long dhoti tied at the waist with a sash falling down the sides of the legs. The upper torso is adorned with necklaces, and the arms have armlets and bracelets. The face is flanked by elongated earlobes and is topped by a high conical headdress...

This representation of the female deity in seated position retains its old brown patina with areas of verdigris both on the exterior of the image as well as the interior of the base. The overall condition is very good with some minor wear but no apparent damages. Acquired from a Chapel Hill, NC estate, originally collected in the 1930s.

18th century Indian bronze candle holder in a shape of a beast with a single horn on its head, could be a lion with mane (and possible vehicle of Durga) or some sort of other mythical creature. Beautiful casting and detailing - see its expressive face with tongue sticking out, tufts of fur on its feet and foliage supporting candle receptacle. Excellent red patina, wonderful feel of age.
