An antique Bizen ware figure of Daikoku, one of the seven fortune gods in Japan. Daikoku is holding a mallet (uchide kozuchi) which Daikoku often holds. On the other hand, he is holding a two legged radish. The word radish in Japanese, daikon, is somewhat synonymous to Daikoku and a legend exist of how the two legged radish became associated with Daikoku. Age: Meiji Period. Fine earthenware vase of satsuma decorated with excellently drawn dancers. The positions of the bodies, the volumes and the perfect impression of movement announce a very good painter. Unfortunately it is anonymous because there is no signature. Good condition. Height about 40cm.

Antique Japanese sumidagawa ware vase with an incredibly realistic three-dimensional dragon coiled all around the body of the vase. The vase itself is very textured in body with a vertically ribbed form as well as tight ridges horizontally. The upper body and neck are glazed in thick oil spill colors. The backside of the piece has a blue chop within a white gourd. Meiji period (1868-1912) Size: 18" H x 10" W

Remember this vase. It is the only one like it in the world. It is stolen merchandise. The story behind how this vase was taken is terrible and the crud that did it needs to be nailed. The vase is very large for a Yabu piece, standing 12 3/8 inches tall. If it were not stolen Merchandise it would have a value of $50,000-$100,000. It was stolen in 2007 from a Doctor in Argentina and a case has been filed with Interpol. It is registered as stolen along with very descriptive images, Case #10451/05...

Japanese shigaraki jar, Edo period 17th-18th century, thickly potted, the skin showing the characteristic pock marks and imbedded fieldspar with a natural ash glaze. This jar was originally used to store tea but became desired as an object of mingei beauty due to the tea ceremony aesthetics. It measures 4.5" wide at mouth 21' tall.

Finely detailed Satsuma jar with 4 male figures comprising 2 scenes. One scene depicts Shoki with a nobleman, the other a Samurai teacher with his student. An exceptional piece and what we were not able to capture in the photos is the depth and richness of the translucent glazes. Wood stand and lid were added later and are included. Measures on stand with lid 9.5". Jar alone measures 7.5" high x 6" diameter. Jar dates about 1875.

Offered is an 8.5" bowl decorated in five colors on a greyish white ground, green reverse with Fuku mark. There are many knife cuts on face and a gold lacquer mend on the rim. An old piece well used and treasured.

This is a great example Meiji Era satsuma. It is probably my favorite piece from Shizan. The colors are rich and the detail is fantastic. It stands 4 3/4 inches tall. This Ewer is in nearly perfect condition.

This unique Satsuma vase is hand potted and shaped to resemble a cloth bag with a tied sash drawing in the neck. The piece is unsigned, but is definitely by a master artist. There a two main panels of figures, one of a group of Lohan gathered around a dragon and the other showing young children studying scrolls.
