The use of incense was introduced in Japan at the same time as Buddhism...

It is 8.7 inches (22 cm) tall by 9.2 inches (23.3 cm) wide. It weighs 2665 gram (5.9 lb).

Edo Period, Ca. 1800s

This candlestick is fashioned from Copper with a ribbed shaft rising from a stylized chrysanthemum-form base terminating into a flower-form top with pricket to receive a candle. It has been attached to a later turned-wood base. It is for use in a Buddhist altar. Good condition.

Antique Japanese bronze candlestick with a whimsical scene of a cat chasing a mouse. The cat slinks around the round base while the mouse clings to the candle pricket high above. The animals are especially well modeled and have highly detailed fur. The base of the candlestick is cast with an archaic motif made popular again during the Meiji era...

1800s

Modeled in the Chinese style, this baluster vase is fitted with elephant head handles on the neck and is decorated in three registers, the largest of which displays four dragons in low-relief over a diamond diaper ground. Various floral and bird designs decorate the lower registers. Extensive verdigris covers the surface as well as the interior and the base as a result of use as a garden ornament. There are no damages or repairs.

Antique Japanese silver kanzashi, the upper design part is gold plated with finely engraved three oak leaves. *This was one of the most popular crests among the warrior samurai class particularily among close devotees of Shinto. Top quality hand cut metal work. Circa (we think) Meiji period (1868-1912). 6 3/4" long and 1 3/8" in width.

Massive and weighing a solid 18 lbs. this hibachi features a well sculpted dragon that clutches the celestial pearl of wisdom that effort-sly glides about the wind that whips about its body, three monkeys in varying poses or positions support this cauldron-like monstrosity...

The Japanese crane is also known as tanshozuru (丹頂鶴) which mean “red crowned crane”. It is known to be standing for longevity since the tale told this animal to be 100 years old...

A gorgeous Japanese brazier with excellent high quality enamel work, this treasure is contrasted in color from the dark silvered with areas of gold lid and the bronzed tone copper base, making it a visual treat. Dated to the late 19th century this can still used for fragrant dried flowers on a desk top or table. It measures 6.5" diameter x 5.5" high.

Antique Japanese cast iron lantern in the form of a cricket (or grasshopper). Crafted with long, elegant antennae. The lantern is made so it can sit over a light or candle, illuminating the cut out sections on it's wings.

A Japanese pure silver vase depicting bamboo trunks with leaves, pine branches and plum tree in bloom with Japanese nightingale perched on a branch with open beak and posture in the act of singing. Engraved signature on the side, and high title junjin mark under the base. Meiji period late 19th century Sizes: 24 x 13 x 13 cm. Condition report: Very good condition

A bronze okimono of an owl, constructed in two sections, the short-eared owl (detachable) perched on a tree branch with its head cocked quizzically to the right and its wings folded at its sides; signed on one side of the branch Seimin chu within a rectangular reserve, by Murata Seimin (村田製眠, 1761-1837)

Meiji (1868-1912) Japanese Mixed Metal Bronze Gourd Shaped Vase with Birds and Morning Glory

It is 9.6 inches (24.4 cm) tall by 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide. It is 3.8 Lb.

It is tarnished and has been repaired at the bottom. It also has missing some flowers, oxidation, and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

Pair of bronze vases with mixed metal inlay of motif of herons perched and flying near a willow tree. The vase contains the inscription: Dai Nippon Kyoto Ju, Ikkodo Bunryu Atsuyoshi. Trans: Residing in Kyoto, Japan Ikkodo Bunryu Atsuyoshi followed by a kao or a distinctive signature of the artist. The artist, Miyabe Atsuyoshi was active during the Meiji period and paved the way for contemporary Takaoka Bronze art. Age: Meiji Period Size: Diameter: 3.25" Height: 9.75"
