An intriguing set of five small dishes kozara decorated in kakiwake sometsuke style with a design of three Chinese boys, karako, manoeuvring a large snow ball, set within a yukiwa snow flake shaped reserve framed by a band of plum blossom set against a dark blue ground. The design is a variant of the “One hundred boys playing” pattern popular on Chinese porcelain from at least the Yongle period...

A rather curious dish produced at the Shida kiln in Arita made for the Japanese domestic market that contains a rebus and the mon for the famous Kabuki actor Ichikawa Ebizo V, who was described as having the eye balls of a fresh Lobster from his characteristic wide eyed acting performances. A finely moulded Arita dish the upper third painted with a simple landscape containing a flowering Japanese Apricot, ume, symbolic of Winter partially “obscured” by the rim of the dish and Bell flowers, kikyo, Gentian, symbolic of Autumn. A good Arita dish in shurogata hemp palm form decorated with kuri, chestnuts, in a somenishikide palette of underglaze cobalt blue with gilt outlined enamels. Dishes with this pattern were copied at the Derby factory in England in the 1770’s, and moulds of this form were used by the Kakiemon kiln in Nangawara during the period 1750-80. A covered bowl or tureen probably made for the European market, but of conventional Japanese form, decorated with a pattern of Peony branches to the exterior in iron red and underglaze blue with green and black enamels and gilding. This shallow bowl-shaped dish is set on a high foot with the characteristic Nabeshima comb pattern encircling it. An unusual rectangular small Koro, Incense burner, decorated in under-glaze blue, iron red and gilding set upon four small feet. Each side of the censer is decorated with bands of diaper brocade inset with rectangular panels containing stylised arabesques set against an iron red ground. The square end panels suggesting a Taotie mask. The koro is of slab construction with applied moulded feet. It measures 8cm long and 6.7cm wide and stands 7.5cm high...

A large, very decorative blue and white Imari vase from the 19th. century with a underglaze blue mark to the base. H. : 78 Condition : No damage . There is a fiering crack from the time when this vase was produced ( which can be seen on the last enlargement ) so that it is legitim to say that this piece is in it´s perfect original condition.

Late 19th or early 20th century Japanese satsuma bowl is 2 ½ inches tall and 7 inches in diameter. It has a magnificent insect and floral design on both the interior and exterior. It has an old repair on the rim and a small hairline crack. Signed.
