Japanese antique large bench carved all over with dragons in swirling clouds, a total of 8 dragons, large oni demon face and birds flying over waves on apron just below seat, seat lifts up for storage, a beautiful and dramatic piece, Meiji Period. Size: 46" high x 57" wide x 23" deep.

19th century boxwood netsuke depicting a playful puppy about to climb onto a back of its sibling. Wonderful sculpture, great rendition of their chubby bodies giving volume to the piece, excellent faces with horn inlaid eyes, delicately incised whiskers. Beautifully stained, superb wear and patina. Height 1 7/16 inches.

Late Meiji period (1890s 1912) Japanese buffalo horn kushi (hair comb) with lacquer decoration of berries and flowers, design continuing on the back. Very well made, excellent expert multicolored lacquering, wonderful work in Japanese taste, in great condition without any losses. Length 4.19 inches. An unusual antique Japanese Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. This is a horse cover in Edo period. The carp climbs the waterfall. This design is hemp and tsutsuigaki. In surrounding light blue cotton, the design of katazomed and the wing is tsutsugaki. The part of the string is cotton and katazome. It spun by the hand, it drew by the hand, and it dyed it. It is a source dispelling technology. There is a thin stain. There is no damage. 19th century buffalo horn ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved in a shape of a ginkgo leaf with stem. Elegant design in Japanese taste, clever use of light and dark colored horn, nice patina. Length 11/16 inches.

Kanban or shop sign. The sign indicates that the store would sell or manufacture ornamental pin holders for the oars on a boat (ireko), in the shape of dolls. According to the sketch pasted to the back of the kanban, this holder is mounted on the oar and is placed over a pin mounted on the boat edge. The oar pivots around that pin, so that the oar moves the boat through the water.

The pin holders are decorated as a male and a female doll in court style, their mouths wide open...

A storehouse (kura) lantern(andon) from late 19th century Japan, made of wooden base, and metal wire body, and hanging hook. Interior paper is a later addition. I have found a long Japanese medicine bottle that fits perfectly inside the lantern, making it suitable for flower arranging. H.17cm(6.7") x Dia.8cm(3").
