Pair of rare hanging apsaras, also known in Japanese as Kuyo Bosatsu or Hiten. The style of the face, the soft appearance of the hands, and the flowing robes are fine examples of the highest quality in Edo Period Buddhist sculpture. One apsara may have been holding an object to offer the Buddhas, while the other is carrying drumsticks and appears to be hitting the drum the apsara is carrying. The pair may have been part of a set long ago, but even so, it is rare to see this set...

A fascinating Japanese shrine bell known as, Waniguchi, or directly translated as Crocodile's mouth, which resembles the wide mouth of a crocodile. The bell is usually found in shinto shrines that enshrine deities that were imported to Japan or Shingon temples. The bell contains an inscription stating that the bell was originally donated by the ancestors of the donor in 1686 and a new bell was rededicated in 1839. This is Kuge-Costume silk nishijin textile the last part of Edo era is rare(1800-1867).This does not have damage. There is a thin stain to the string of hakama. However, it is excellent condition.The kuge was a Japanese aristocratic class that dominated the Japanese imperial court in Kyoto from its establishment as the capital in the late 8th century until the rise of the Shogunate in the 12th century, at which point it was eclipsed by the daimyo...

Antique Japanese carved wooden figure of Nio (Buddhist temple guardian), carved of wood with wonderful details and intensity of expression, traces of original pigment, once guarded the exterior gate to Buddhist temple, on metal stand, Edo Period. Size of figure: 30" high x 17" wide x 7" deep. Size on metal stand: 32" high x 18" wide x 12" deep.

This nicely executed ivory carving of a geisha is a late Meiji period (1868~1911) product. It depicts a formally dressed geisha holding a flower in her right hand and an umbrella in her left hand. It is 6 ¼” high, 1 ¾” wide and 1 ½” thick. The artist’s signature, “Masayuki,” is on the bottom. Aside from some hair line cracks due to age, it is in great condition.

Antique Japanese bronze usubata, Meiji period. The usubata are used for floral arrangements, like a vase. This usubata is striking with a dragon supporting the vessel with one of its arms as its back arches. It measures 9" tall 12" wide at base.
