Beautiful and Rare Korean Joseon Dynasty Silver and Coral Eunjangdo with Very Fine Floral Design. The eunjangdo was worn by a woman of rank as a chest pendant and a symbol of her social standing. This dagger also served as a tool to save women from personal humiliation or peril, not by attacking an assailant but by killing themselves, under the Confucian moral obligation of medieval Korea 'to remain faithful to one spouse'. 4 inches, 10 cm.

Original example of a Japanese antique isho tansu from the Matsumoto area. Made all of kiri (paulownia) wood with original patina (frame, top, sides, and drawers). Iron hardware includes money bag shaped lock plates specific to Matsumoto tansu, moko shaped drawer pulls and elaborately cut handle back plates and drawer corner bracing. The tansu has 5 large drawers and the lower right hand side has a safe box with 2 small interior drawers.

A long dish of elliptical form moulded with petals decorated with a dense hagi-karakusa ground and an oval reserve containing a simple flowering Apricot, ume, growing from a rock. The reverse decorated with Karakusa sprigs, and a spiral Fuku within a double square. The dish dates to the early Eighteenth century circa 1700-1740. The dish is in good condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. It measures 20.3cm in diameter, 10xm at its widest and stands 4.5cm high

A large dish decorated in reverse painted style, kakiwake, with a pair of Karako, Chinese boys, Shirasagi, White Egrets, and Chrysanthemums. The border painted with a narrow band of shippo against a blue ground, and the reverse of the dish painted with a series of ten auspicious trigrams divided by zoomorphic motifs, perhaps intended to represent scroll dragons. A very fine quality dish decorated with a pattern of stylised Lotus-mon with three quadrilobed reserves each containing an element of the shochikubai, pine, take, bamboo, matsu, and prunus, ume. The centre decorated with a small central roundel framed by a border of demi-florets containing a Dragon delineated in gilt with green and iron red enamels holding a jewel, tama, in its claw. A bowl of unusual inverted bell shape with a comparatively high foot-rim the exterior decorated in early Ming style with an elaborate high looping lotus arabesque to the body. The foot decorated with stylised lotus petals and an “oxo” border to the foot-ring. This lovely plum patterned chawan (umebachi) is done in a classic style known as e-Gorai (“e” meaning picture and “Gorai” meaning Korean). This classification is somewhat of a misnomer as the style is said to have first developed at China’s Cizhou kilns in early Ming—only later being widely copied and popularized in Korea. e-Goriai wares first made an appearance in Japan by way of Korea at the end of the 16th century and have been highly appreciated among tea enthusiasts to this day...
