Antique Chinese large cabinet. Beautifully lacquered with scenes of birds and flowers in gold on a red lacquer ground. Large doors open to reveal a compartment with two shelves. The top shelf has two small built in drawers. The sides of the cabinet are lacquered black. Dates from the 18th century. Size: 70 1/4" high x 44" wide x 20 1/4" deep.

Antique Japanese tansu chest, made all of kiri (paulownia) wood. The tansu has four large drawers, the bottom two of which are locked with a vertical locking bar also made of kiri wood. The two top drawers have wonderful large iron lock plates in the shape of peony flowers with raised flower buds. The corners of each drawer are reinforced with chrysanthemum shaped ironwork. Yuan Dynasty 14th century Dehua ware covered box. Porcellanous stoneware with honey - coloured glaze over a extremely nice moulded floral decoration. Diameter : 7,2 cm. Condition : Some very faint age - cracks to the glaze but not in the body. One single minute chip at the underside of the box, which not interfers the extremely nice appearance of this rare piece.

Another highlight of our family collection: Rather large Chinese Kinuta Seiji Celadon Vase for Japanese Tea Ceremony. Classical mallet (kinuta) shaped celadon vase in the style of the longquan kilns of the 13th century. The celadon glaze is applied very thickly and the vase may have been glazed and fired more than one time. Some fine aesthetic hairlines complete its beautiful expression.

The execution of the foot rim and the texture of the clay matches the Chinese original...

Take a look on this rounded wan-shaped bowl. The light, sandy clay with enclosures is expertly thrown. Including the foot ring the bowl is covered with a mixed feldspar and ash glaze.

The light iron oxide in the clay produded a beautiful loquat color known from Korean Ido chawans...

Momoyama to early Edo period made, little distorted half cylinder ki-Seto (yellow Seto) chawan with a great wabi-sabi atmosphere, rarely seen on ki-Seto items.

Ki-Seto is said to have been the outcome of the attempts of potters to recreate Chinese celadon wares. A fortunate mistake, for a new ware was born. The ash glaze looks like deep-fried tofu and has been given the name aburaage-de. Almost all Ki-Seto wares are serving utensils - exept some few tea bowls...

An e-kagami of very small proportions 69.4mm (2.73 inches) in diameter, and 12.2cm (4.8 inches) weighing 51gm. Decorated with a sand textured ground and Hares, usage, leaping over stylised waves, nami,in this example taking the form of ryusuimon in which there is a reflection of a crescent moon. The mirror is signed Fujiwara and probably dates to the late seventeenth century, Mid Edo period. For condition see photos, some wear and minor corrosion. Worldwide shipping at Cost.
