This is a beautiful rare Japanese Cloisonne tray. If it were not signed, many would attribute this fine piece to the workshop of Namikawa Sosuke. The workmanship on this piece exceeds that of many other cloisonne trays to be seen with roosters or chickens. The tray measure just under 11 by 11 inches. Condition is very good but there is a slight indent on the rim with a minor bit of crazing at this spot on the reverse side. To view see the last 2 images.

DESCRIPTION: A Qing dynasty bamboo pipe, possibly used for either opium or tobacco, with a bulbous body crafted from a large segment of giant bamboo. Mounted onto this segment are heavy brass fittings, one for the tubular tobacco bowl with its long brass shaft descending into the body. A pair of earlier Opium weights, denominal 10 Ticals, (weight approx 160 grams and 152 grams), Shan, late 18th. century.

Nice Shan Ducks of a good size, with fine brown patinas. Both on Hexagonal bases one stepped and one decorated on top.

Condition: Choice, very nicely preserved.

A Chinese mother of pearl box of canted rectangular shape and mounted with silver edgings. The cover is delicately and minutely engraved with a scene of figures at leisure in a pavilion surrounding a vacant shield. The sides bear panels of very finely worked flowers with geometric borders. The box is in excellent condition and superb quality craftsmanship. Age: early 19 C. size: 7.5cm x 6.3cm x 3cm high.
