Cast bronze incense burner, supported by three feet, on the sides, two Buddhist lions form the handles. The object was not cast in one go, indeed the handles and the feet were cast separately and welded, which for the feet is unusual. This is an old and well done Japanese Satsuma box. The design has a wonderful contrast between the simplistic over glazed enamel water elements and the refined, highly detailed gold wheels. The inside is covered with a layer of gold. The box is not signed but we think it could have possibly come from the Makuzu Kozan studio because of its quality and uniqueness. Makuzu Kozan did some work in earthenware and came up with many wonderful designs. We also know that they were not all signed...

Large Chinese Han dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD) iridescent green glazed tapering ovoid form burial jar decorated with a band of well moulded animal forms extending around the upper circumference of the jar. Measures 7" high x 8" diameter. The mouth and base have the typical indications of the Han firing process. Small remnants of the clay support from the kiln are visible at the lower base and at the mouth where the jar was detached from supports. Very good overall condition...

A rare and very old neolithic pottery jar from the Qijia culture from Gansu Province, China, 2050 - 1200 BC. Being corded, when the clay was wet, fabric was applied making pattern. When it was fired, the fabric would burn off, leaving the design. In excellent condition, no restoration or repairs, it measures 6.5" high.
