Rare, Museum Quality 19th Century Medicine Chest (Yakjang) with Paulownia Doors. This is the finest work of Korean antique furniture we have ever offered, and likely the only example of this type anywhere outside of Korea. An exceptionally detailed, well cast bronze devotional lamp ("Sukunda") depicting Ganesh (Ganesha)flanked by two lions, seated underneath a seven-headed cobra whose sinuous back proceeds down the lamp and is integrated into the handle, which is surmounted by a kneeling figure, possibly the devotee who commissioned the piece. In exceptional original condition. The piece stands some 12-3/4" in height and is quite heavy. A beautiful and substantial devotional item.

An antique pair of architectural corbels of mythological elephant baku’s are commonly placed under the eaves of Japanese Buddhist temple and Shinto Shrines to ward off evil spirits. Pilgrim's sodenashi made of hand-spun cotton with writhings which are the name of the pilgrim, the year (Meiji 5, 1871) etc. The places of pilgrimage is Saigoku Sanju-Sansho (33 holy places in the west) which are for worship of Kannon and the oldest places of pilgrimage. A real piece of art: Shino-Oribe Tea Bowl from the early Edo Period (around 1620, early 17th century). An antique small tansu of kiri wood from the Taisho period. Sliding doors behind which books and small objects were stored. Lower drawers were used to store documents, photos, ephemera, receipts, etc.

Original bronze hardware. The sliding door handles feature a quarter moon casting light on a garden of flowers and the lock plates have a Kamon *family crest" design of a Botan (Peony) blossom with its leaves encircling the flower.
