Wonderful distorted shoe shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl made of light, fine, unrefined Mino clay. Shape and style make it appear contemporary with the late Oribe bowls. The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical black oniita engobe inside and outside - with the exception of the bottom - over which a white, feldspatic Shino glaze has been poured.

Just the foot ring and its immediate surrounding was left unglazed...

This jade skull is yellowish green and is from the Hongshan Neolithic Culture. It was dated to 6700BP-4900BP. It is 1 7/8" long and 1 5/8" wide. It has marvelous patina and the color is mesmerizing. It is 100% translucent. The jade is extremely fine grained and top quality. This could have been the top of a shaman's staff. This is beautiful Japanese antique Satsuma box with very fine detailing. The white enameling in the flowers and leaves with the gold detail s remind us of work seen on some Seikozan or Shizan pieces. A load of time consuming workmanship went into this piece...

A Chinese porcelain gourd-shaped vase in coral-red glaze. "Daqing Jiaqing Nianzhi" six characters mark inside the foot rim, and of the period. The vase is in excellent condition: no chip, no crack, no restoration, but just a few glaze scratches. Height: 6".

Antique Japanese single section isho tansu (clothing chest) made of kiri (paulownia) wood. Iron hardware includes warabite shaped drawer pulls and round lock plates. There are two large exterior drawers. In the bottom right hand corner is a safe box with hinged door and two small interior drawers.

The hardware is made of iron and includes round lock plates.

A beautifully carved cinnabar round box depicting a sage and his attendant walking under a pine tree in a waterfront scene. We date this box to mid-Qing Dynasty, 18th century. From our collection of Japanese Chawan with Christian Cross design: highly distorted shoe shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl with a rounded brim, made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potter's knife in its lower part around the foot ring.

In the style of Seto kuro bowls this Chawan was covered with a light brown glaze. On one side the sign of a Christian (Maltese) cross was left unglazed and was covered with a transparent ash glaze.

A monumental pair of Chinese hardwood temple corbels, finely carved as a pair of fu dogs and their offspring. Each adult fu dog stands on their front legs with the rear legs pointed upwards, so that they would press against the ceiling. The front legs are balanced atop a floral xiu qiu ball, and a rambunctious baby fu dog clings by its claws to the ball. With small traces of pigments.
