Carved from gray schist and retaining most of the neck, this head appears to have once been part of a larger relief carving. The back of the head was probably attached to a larger stone background and was later chiseled off. The hair is wavy and the lips are bow shaped. There are no apparent cracks or repairs to the stone, but the lower left ear shows some small loss. Acquired in 1980 from the estate of a history professor who who traveled extensively and collected antiques...

The cat like figure has a filler hole between the ears, good weight (important for stability) and is silver in color, but exact metal content is not known...He/she is charming...4 inches x 3.5 inches wide and 1.5 inches deep...

This silver box, of lobed medallion form, has a hinged lid decorated with geometric and floral repousse work in prominent relief. The sides are incised with floral elements with a caligraphic cartouche in the front. The base is also incised with a floral design surrounded by a band of small repeating triangles. The entire box is fashioned from solid sheet silver. There is some wear and light tarnish.
