Unusual 19th century Japanese carved wooden head of a warrior blind in one eye. Was carved and, judging by patina, most probably used, as the top of a votive statue. Wonderfully captured facial expression, beautiful patina, inscribed in ink on the bottom, inscription can be translated as GREAT SAMURAI MARUMITSU. Height 2.76 inches.

19th century Japanese bronze tea ceremony hibashi (long metal chopsticks for handling charcoal in hibachi brazier) with finials in a form of heads of the Fungus of Immortality. These hibashi are for use in the summer time (winter ones have top half covered in wood). Finely made of bronze with high copper contents, beautiful casting and chiseling of the fungus, embossed areas at the working end for better handling of charcoals. Superb patina, beautiful wear, pleasantly heavy. Length 11 inches.

A Fukagawa tea cup and 5 3/8 inch tea saucer dish. Iris decoration from Chuji Fukagawa's own 19th century design book. Blue underglaze and red, yellow and gold overglaze enamel decoration. Mt. Fuji mark in underglaze blue inside the foot rings. Late Meiji or early Taisho. Good condition. Priced for each cup and saucer, there are now three cups and saucers available.
