Highly unusual mask, which has kept the original shape of the tree trunk from which it was carved. The mask itself is carved in a kind of "reverse relief", its features hollowed out, except for its nose. One round hole at ear level on each side. Wood, with brown semi-glossy patina. Lovely ivory netsuke depicting the sparrow Fukura Suzume, a small symbolic bird associated with various legends and stories of Japanese folklore.
The netsuke is associated with various legends and stories, including that of “The sparrow with the tongue cut out” (舌切り雀, “Shitakiri Suzume”).
The netsuke is signed Masanao 正直 within an oval reserve under the base.

Antique Japanese large roll of unsewn, brocade obi fabric, in deep blue silk with gold, orange, and gray, with imagery of pine trees on a blue wave background. Hand woven with fine detail and excellent Gold threading.

Nice old Thai sticky rice “lunch box”, from the Karen ethnic group Northern Thailand. This is about 40 or 50 tears old with typical double wall construction. There are areas that have been lovingly repaired with some nylon cord. To the purist this may be seen as a distraction but I see time and an ethic where nothing was ever wasted- this was a valued very personal object. Next to it I have placed a contemporary one...
Wonderful Charming small Bizen ware handmade sculpture of a sitting dog. Nice detail work especially his eyes and ears and even the circular woven mat on which he sits. He has a collar and an alert expression. Original piece with no condition issues. Taisho Period. (1912-1926).

Unusual late Meiji period (1890s -1912) wooden sashi netsuke in a form of a pillar, its top carved as a face of the Zen Patriarch Daruma wearing monk’s cape. Wonderful face with severe expression, carved out of chosen matsu (Korean pine wood) in ittobori (one cut) style characteristic of Hida school of netsuke carvers, eyes are inlaid with metal. Himotoshi (cord opening) goes through the bottom to the back of the netsuke. Beautiful patina, very pleasant to hold. Height 4.2 inches.

Antique Chobi hand knotted wool rug. The rug has very dramatic blues and yellows accented with pale green and red. The design is centered around an X shaped from the center. it measures 7'1" by 8'10".
A good 19th century Ningxia Region pillar rug with a dragon motif.
The woollen rug has a design of a blue winding dragon with open mouth; all around are Buddhist auspicous symbols like the flaming Pearl and clouds.
