Japanese scroll painting depicting a scene from the Genji Monogatari (Tale of Genji). A nobleman and a young man sit on tatame mats and look out onto a garden setting. They are surrounded by painted byobu screens and clouds of gold mist. The painting is rendered in traditional Tosa School manner with flattened over head perspective and fine lined brushwork. Painted in mineral colors, sumi ink and gold leaf flecks on paper. Edo Period. Size of scroll: 47" high x 19 1/2" wide...

Statue of Xuan Wu, or Zhen Wu, God of the North, in formal attire, sitting on a throne, with his two attributes, the snake and the tortoise. Wood with polychrome painting. China, 19th century Height: 13" (32,5 cm). Colors partly chipped, otherwise very good condition. NOTE: Xuan Wu is one of the highest ranking Taoist deities.

Chinese antique white hardstone (possibly jade) bi shaped plaque, carved with 9 chimera in high relief and set into an ornately carved dark hardwood stand. All carving beautifully rendered, nice white stone. Republic Period (early 20th century). Total size: 20" high x 16" wide x 6" deep. Size of bi disk: 7 3/4" wide diameter

Beautiful tansu with a natural kiri wood front and gorgeous lacquer sugi frame, with iron hardware and black Iron handles on each of its drawers. Small locking door with a kan (ring shape) pull on its front. Its left and right sides have two iron handles and one large locking handle. Meiji Period (1868 - 1912) Size: 33.5" height, 29.75" width, 15.25" depth

Head of Buddha, surmounted by a flaming usnisa, its face with lowered eyes reflecting a deep inner serenity. Bronze, with slightly encrusted patina of dark-green color. An interesting saddle bag possibly made from the hide of an ibex or mule like animal. The bag retains that rugged look used by the merchants who travelled across the Himalayas during the spring to Tibet and back bring goods from India to the Tibetan plateau.
