Large Japanese early Meiji period sumi ink on paper scroll by calligrapher Ito Keishu (aka Ito Shinpei), who was active circa 1870s to 1890s. Signed and with three red seals. Paper mount and wood scroll ends. The scroll measures 79” x 32 1/2" (painting size: 54 1/2" x 26”). Good intact condition with some rubbing and soiling evident. There is a small distressed area or repair to the paper mid-way down the scroll on the right side (see enlargement)...

A fine pottery koro in typical milky white glaze supported by three figures in russet red by Okuda Mokuhaku dating from the mid 19th century. It is 13 cm (5 inches) diameter, 11.2 cm (4-1/4 inches) tall. There is a chip in the rim, otherwise is in excellent condition. It is stamped on the base AKahadayama followed by a circular seal reading Mokuhaku. t comes in a simple wooden box.

A hand painted piece of art of a plum tree, painted with ink on makuri paper with sign and seal of the artist - late Meiji Period.

I tried to find out the name of the artist, but it is difficult to read. The painting has a real nice and sensitive touch. It is hard to find similar items like this amazing one.

The condition is good - there is only some unimportant wrinkle and stain which gives the artwork that special touch of a unique piece of art.

He appears to be wearing an oval shaped hat on which is carved an animal of some sort with long striped tail and clawed feet. The wood is beautifully worn from years of weather and rain.
