This is an exquisite decorated iron Koro signed Nihonkoku Kyoto ni sumu Komai sei. The condition is excellent and actually better than the images show. A glue/cloth residue was left on the underside and side of the base.This is easy to remove.The piece stands 4 1/8 inches tall and is 3 1/8 inches wide. The delicate lid appears to be silver.

Antique Japanese carved bamboo kakehana, wall vase for flowers. This section of bamboo has been carved with the figure of Quanyin (Kannon). The Goddess of Mercy is seen floating amidst storm clouds, ribbons of lightening streaking across the sky around her. There is a small rectangular hole in the back of the vase so it can hang from a hook or nail in the wall.

Unusual 19th century Japanese carved wooden head of a courtier in a tall hat. Was carved and, judging by patina, most probably used, as the top of a votive statue. Wonderfully captured facial expression, beautiful patina. Height 4.6 inches.

Japanese isho tansu, or clothing chest of drawers, constructed with Persimmon wood front drawers and a Sugi (cedar) frame and interior. The tansu holds four long drawers with metal pulls and round keyholes with floral plating. The sides of the piece are built with handles to carry and transport the tansu. Original condition with kanji inscription on backside of chest.

Antique Japanese box with large lid, lacquered red and black with shell inlay, black lacquer mon of pine tree and writing in black, heavy iron hardware, has holes for tying top to bottom for travel. A fine 18th Century Kano school painting depicted peony flowers. Behind the scene is a stream. It is painted with pigments of green (rokusho), which has been richly used. The combination of red and white flower symbolizes good fortune. This subject was painted in life size and a very good example of Kano school peony painting.

Used for ceremonial purposes by the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties. Traditionally, the jue vessel was made of bronze with a pouring spout on either end and a pair of capped posts rising from the rim. This piece, although in the shape of a jue, is done in fine, powdery-blue celadon and is described on the tomobako as being a jue-shaped incense burner (korou).

This small carved jade plaque was certainly the element of the central part of a Ruyi scepter, a symbol of the power of Chinese leaders. The plaque is finely carved with deep patterns, we can distinguish a bat, a symbol of happiness, and a vase of lotus flowers. The vase could mean abundance and the flowers seem to be Buddhist Lotuses unless they are immortal peonies. On the body of the vase is represented the intertwined feminine-masculine symbol, Ying and Yang...
