19th century Chinese small carved wooden architectural panel depicting a court lady with a female attendant. Must have been part of an altar piece. Very nice quality carving, rich detailing, very pleasant wear and patina. Height 4 7/8 inches.

The shape is a Corinthian creation and also known as kotyle.

Greek black-glazed skyphos with high swelling body and plain rim. Fairly wide base with low, bulged foot. Two round-sectioned handles applied horizontally to the exterior of the rim.

19th century boxwood netsuke of snickering Hotei covering his mouth with an open fan and holding kakhara in the other. Kakhara is an implement for a wandering monk or pilgrim a Buddhist rattle to scare off small creatures like snakes and insects, and thus prevent the carrier from stepping on them. Hotei is one of the 7 Gods of Good Luck and is considered an incarnation of Maitreya - the Buddha of the future...
