Fine Tall Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Horse & Rider
This fine and elegant pottery model of a horse and rider was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been "cold painted" in various coloured pigments. The horse stands alert with its head turned a little to its left. The riders sits upright with his arms outstretched.
This is quite large example with a height of 39 cm (15.25 inches)...

The lid and vase are nicely hollowed inside. The birds are fly catchers amongst flowers stems and leaves showing some stunning markings. The lid is so neat with another bird nestled in a flowered stem. The surfaces having a superb polish and fine incised details makes the vase a very showy piece...
A stone necklace composed of numerous beads of graduated size, variously of globular, tubular or irregular form in shades of light green, white and grey. They are suspending a Mezcala stone head pendant with broad incisions used to mark the facial characteristics and drilled at the back of the head. The suspended length as pictured is 15".
Beautiful jade jar with elaborately detailed carvings of a large taotie motif, or "gluttonous ogre mask", a face motif without a lower jaw area, on its front and back, two carved handles shaped like beasts' heads with agate rings, carved chevron designs above and below the lid, topped with a floral finial. A playful rendering of a thistle adorns both sides of this soba choko, with bands around the bottom of the cup. Some minor glaze crazing and cracks, but overall fine condition. Soba choko were initially used for small food items, much like mukozuke or ko-zara are used in today's presentation of Japanese cuisine...
This antique toggle was sourced from China. I suspect that was originally from Tibet. The carved circular markings on bottom of 2 of the sides of the toggle are more typical of the ethnic minorities.
Toggle is almost 2 inches long and .5 inches x .5 inches.
