Chinese 19th Century Blue & White Porcelain Box with Inscription

This blue & white porcelain box was made during the late 19th century or possibly the early 20th century. It is heavily-potted and glazed, both inside and out, the glaze a little crackled in places. The outer surface is covered in a geometric/floral pattern in underglaze blue. Inside the box and the cover are characters etched into the glaze; we have not had these translated although we believe they are words of memorial...

Statue, made of glass, representing Buddha Sakyamuni_ sitting cross-legged on an elevated lotus throne, his head backed by an aureola, holding a scroll (symbolizing the Buddhist Book of The Law) in his right hand. China, early 19th century. Height: 15.2 cm. Accident at shoulder level (restored), otherwise good condition.

Classic Han Hu shaped jar with beautiful lead spinach green glaze with much sought after silver patina. Excellent condition. Note: spur marks and supports on rim and foot. H:12.6cm/4.9in and D: 11.1cm/4.3in.

Statue of a snarling lion holding a smaller lion under its front paws, resting on a rectangular base. Bronze, with fine dark green patina with reddish areas. China, Ming Dynasty. Length: 6.7 cm. Height: 5.7 cm. Very good condition.

A Chinese, qingbai, bowl incised with a sponaneous 4floral design; Song dynasty. The rim of the bowl is notched to give the impression of six petals. Overall covered in a greenish glaze, except for the outer base and foot-rim. Likely from Fujian province. Dimensions; 17.8 cm diameter. Condition; there is some wear to the glaze, a few small rim chips, and a couple of short hairlines from the rim. It has a resonant tone when tapped.

Finely carved mask, with strong features and delicate painting meant to enhance the strength of the character it represents. The character depicted here is of Hashihime. The mask is made of wood, its eyes are made of metal. The mask is signed. Japan,Taisho and Early Showa Period (1912-1945). Height: 20.8 cm. Very good condition. NOTE 1: The most famous hashihime story comes from Tsurugi no Maki, in The Tale of the Heike, and is retold in the noh play Kanawa...

Song dynasty longquan celadon two fish plate with good green glaze, good condition no damage please see picture for detail, size: 13 cm diameter.

A Chinese, yellow glazed, caparisoned horse; C6-7th AD, Sui to early Tang dynasty. A lively figure of a prancing horse. Dimensions; 18cm tall, 20cm long. Condition; please ask for additional photos to satisfy yourself as to condition. The figure has had broken and restored legs, with some associated over-painting. It is in a restored, but very presentable condition, with age realted wear.

Exceptional Japanese incense cabinet kodansu in wood covered with a profusion of mother-of-pearl flowers and bone leaves, engraved and inlaid with the shibayama technique. Bottom in nashi-ji lacquer.

Antique Japanese Nihon Matsu isho tansu (clothing chest) in two sections from the Nihonmatsu area of Fukushima Prefecture. Made all of kiri (paulownia) wood. Iron hardware has a deep red lacquer finish and includes hirute shaped drawer pulls and large square lock plates with shōchikubai symbols (three friends of winter: plum, pine and bamboo) and a butterfly key hole cover. The top section has 2 large full-width drawers...

Set of 3 “Socialist Kitsch”, porcelain brush pots with green Jingdezhen “China” marks inside the “bi” shaped footrims, circa 1960s-1970s. These all have the same mark and same dimensions H: 12cm/4.8in and D: 8.4cm/3.2in. Relatively good Jingdezhen quality porcelain, and simple polychrome decorations with revolutionary slogans. These were meant for mass consumption but amazingly little of it remains today...

Statue of Guanyu, the general of Liu Bei, which was transformed into the famous Guangong, the Taoist God of War. Guanyu is shown here in full military garb, with helmet and armor, sitting on an elevated throne. Votive box at the back, still closed. Wood, with remnants of superimposed painting, lacquering and gilding. China, 19th century. Height: 24.7 cm. Painting and lacquering partly flaked, otherwise very good condition.

Rare Song dynasty longquan celadon chrysanthemum large plate, with carved chrysanthemum petals motif at the interior, good condition with small rim chips restored, please see picture for detail, size: 21 cm diameter.

A Korean, celadon bowl with incised decoration of two parrots to the interior of the bowl; Goryeo dynasty. The beautiful bluish green colour has turned an olive-green colour, in part, due to the incomplete oxidising atmosphere of the kiln. Dimension; 17cm diameter. Condition; a couple of long hairlines eminating from the rim, a chip to the rim, slightly warped, and firing imperfections.

A Chinese, celadon, twin-fish dish from the Longquan kiln; Southern Song to Yuan dynasty. Carved with a lotus-petal design to the exterior, and covered all-over in a beautiful sea-green glaze, apart from the outer base which has burnt reddish. Dimensions; 12cm diameter. Conditions; good. no chips or cracks.

A fine style cylinder seal carved in an attractive beige-yellowish stone, probably jasper, Mesopotamia under the Achaemenid Empire, c. 7th.-5th. century BC.

Cast bronze warrior with multiple patinas, partly gilded. The samurai, wielding a naginata, fights furiously. The artist may have wanted to designate here the Japanese medieval hero, Miyamoto Musashi because the latter fought bareheaded and during the fights his hair electrified by fury stood on his head. History teaches us that he would have triumphed in 60 duels during his life as a swordsman. Good condition, original gilding and patina...
