DESCRIPTION: A handsome scholar's calligraphy brush, crafted from a wood shaft that has been beautifully lacquered in a swirling, wave-like pattern of red and black lacquer. The lacquer shaft is connected to the natural bristle brush by a bulbous wood ferrule. One of the four treasures of the scholar’s studio, this striking scholar’s brush would have made an attractive companion to a fine brush pot. Very good condition; most likely dating from 1900 - 1930...

From an ancient Ayuthaya Collector: 18/19th Century BRONZE SUKKOTHAI BUDDHA Subduing Mara. Fine original, old patina. Size: Height 29" x width 19" x depth 11". This is one of the 3 Buddhas which belonged to the collector and which represents the Thai ideal of possessing the 3 most desiable images for worshipping, i.e. UTHONG, CHIENGSAEN and SUKKOTHAI.

A pair of large Japanese porcelain dishes, beautifully decorated in five colors: underglaze blue, overglaze black, -green, -aubergine, iron red and gold. Showing an asymetrical design of a courtesan with her servant under a cherry tree, the right side with flowers. 19th century Japanese ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) in a form of a natural fruit pit skillfully carved with 2 scenes of scholars engaged in discussions, all among swirling clouds. Excellent carving in deep relief with precise undercutting and complete piercing of the body of the pit. Very nice mellow brown patina, in excellent condition. Height 1/2 inches.

Lovely 19th C Japanese Imari porcelain dish featuring 2 shi shi lion dogs. In very good antique condition, the dish measures 10" diameter x 2" deep. Meiji era, circa 1890.

An antique tall Kasane Tansu (stacking Kimono chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand forged iron and bronze hardware. Upper section features a pair of sliding doors, a lift-out door and 6 drawers of varying sizes while the bottom section has 5 large drawers, a small drawer and a hinged security door that hides two small drawers where valuables were kept hidden away...

A large, Museum Quality pottery figure of a male attendant carrying a flask or a vase under his arm. The figure dates to Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644 AD.

The figure is placed on throne made of Lotus flowers on the top of hexagonal plint, both in fine Sancai colours - a two-colour green and yellow glazed robe.

He wears a high hat. Finely painted facial details...

This fireman's sashiko coat is the one in Edo period. (1850) It is dragon's motif in the indigo dye cotton. It is very impressive. There is damage in the collar. 82cm x122cm (32.1" x47.8") sashiko hanten are the coats worn by firemen for protecting their bodies. Some have pictures,some are of all repeated patterns, and the others are unfigured indigo ones or ones with a medalion on the back. It is a polychrome in the cotton ground that is black, is gray, blue, blue, white, beige, etc...

Small northern Song Dynasty celadon plate decorated with lotus leaf pattern to underside. In good condition other than some wear to glaze due to use and age and small chip to glaze on rim. Nice symmetrical shape. Diameter: 5.50 inches; Height: 1.50 inches.

A rare carved ivory Netsuke in the form of a Lion or Karashishi, made in Japan in the Edo / Tokugawa period (1600-1868), probably during the 18th Century. Condition: Excellent - age yellowing and cracks - no damages or losses and no restoration. 4cm (1.6inches)long; 3.6cm (1.3inches) high; 2.4cm (0.9inches) deep. An unusual Japanese multi layer lacquer brush pot inlaid with three metal coins. The oil spill pattern lacquer is in hues of red, black, and beige.
