1890s - 1910s (late Meiji - early Taisho) Japanese inkstone in simple rectangular shape with carved keyfret border and central grinding area. Used for grinding of an inkstick on the surface of the stone. Akama stone of shiunseki type with characteristic reddish brown color - Akama inkstones are quite famous, and come from the Yamaguchi Prefecture. Beautiful patina, traces of ink on the grinding surface, comes with fitted wooden cover. Very nice object for scholars table, in excellent condition...
Late Meiji period (1890s to 1912) Japanese turtle shell kushi (hair comb) with silver lacquer decoration presenting a view of the upper part of a castle with distant hills in the background. I believe this type of hair implement is called side comb. Excellently made, superb quality lacquer work, beautiful translucent material, in great condition. Signed GYOKUHIRA on the back. Length 3.41 inches.
Late Meiji period (1890s to 1912) Japanese buffalo horn kushi (hair comb) encased in silver sheath with gold and shakudo inlays representing beans thrown during setsubun ceremony performed at the New Year around the house to exorcise the oni (demons). Superbly made, crisp detailing, wonderful work in Japanese taste, in great condition. Length 3.39 inches.
Chinese green glazed noodle making bowl, 5" high-maximum height, 8" diameter-top, green glazed, early part of 1900's. This is the bowl making home made noodle in the kitchen. Push the dough into the holes, and become instant noodle coming out of the holes. Incised Chinese Character mark on the bottom "Great". No major damages, there are some wear and tear from the use in the kitchen for many years.
A small rare Song Dynasty jarlet with crackle glaze. Yellowish, off-white/cream color glaze covers inside of jar and outside to near base. Small flaws in glaze noted on images. Height 1 and half inches.
Japanese late 19th century sleeve from a stage costume. The sleeve has design hand embroidered on front and back. The front has a large pearl with 3 dragon claws showing around the edge. There are also plum blossoms, bamboo leaves and stylized clouds. The reverse has the 3 friends, bamboo, plum and pine with cloud designs. There is also a fabric handle for the piece. This type of sleeve was not actually worn, but held against the body during a performance...

The wood is ichii (Japanese yew) with clever use of wood patterns to add to the charm of the piece, Simple classic design, in excellent condition. Diameter 2.73 inches, height 1.14 inches. Late Meiji - early Taisho (1890s - 1910s) Japanese Arita round porcelain kogo (covered box for incense during tea ceremony) with sometsuke (underglaze blue and white) decoration. Painted in underglaze blue in Shonsui style: initial Shonsui ware is Chinese blue and white porcelain imported to Japan starting in the reign of Tianqi Emperor (1621-1627). Starting from the 18th century Arita kilns have been producing their own items in Shonsui style...

Dark brown stoneware body, beautiful Satsuma type glaze with wonderful fine crackling, multicolored enamels with gold. Excellent free potting, wonderful sense of energy to the piece, great object in Japanese taste, in perfect condition. Stamped with a potter’s seal in unglazed area by the foot. This serpentine stone displays a yellowish buff color against a mottled blackish tone to produce a mountainous landscape effect. It is tubular in form and set upon 3 carved feet. It has a soft polish on the both the exterior and interior. The base is unpolished and exhibits its original carved surface. There are several small chips and evidence of wear around the rim, otherwise it is in good condition. It was likely used to hold short incense sticks...
Late 18th to early 19th century Chinese jadeite carved plaque plaque for sawing onto clothes with carved and pierced decoration of leaves. Nice natural untreated jadeite with shades of green, in excellent condition. Height 1.44 inches, weight 8.9 grams.

This cylindrical seal is fashioned from a very pale yellowish-green soapstone and incised on one end with archaistic characters encircled by a shallow incised ring. Otherwise, the seal is undecorated and has a pleasant, satiny sheen from age and use. There are numerous old small chips and wear to the edges of the carved end but not on the characters. This piece has the mellow appearance of an object that was used over a long period of time...
Pair Japanese Lacquered Lotus flower decorated on Kiri wood Hibachi with Copper lining, Ca. late meiji period, 1910's, 4 1/4" diameter-maximum outside top measurement, 3 1/4" high, with raised Maki lacquer Lotus flower design on one(1) side. The copper lining has been cleaned and polished and in good condition.
