A rare Luristan bronze mace head. The upper body with a segmented swelling, bordered by bands, interesting large discus at each end, makes it a very rare type.
Size: ca. 129 mm. high and massive.
Condition: Superb, with excellent brown and green patina - a gem!

An Indian stone surahi expertly turned on a lathe from a single piece of black steatite, a variety of soapstone. It is beautifully made and very light, displaying the remarkable hollowing performed by the artisan. It relates directly to bronze and brass versions from the 18th century. Chinese horizontal panel carving with red lacquer and gilt accenting. A strong central figure stands with a person kneeling before him, and two heavenly figures on horseback to either side. Many other smiling figures gather closely while tree branches hang from below. The panel is framed and bordered in soft velvet.

Thewa is the technique invented around 400 years ago where filigree gold designs are fused onto a coloured glass ground, then backed with silver foil. The interior is embellished with red flowers on black lacquer. Two sets of double-doors each open to reveal a drawer and an open storage area.
