A Korean soapstone box that has a square section carved out for the ink pad plus space to store soapstone seals. The box is cut out of one block of red soapstone measuring about 4 3/4"w x 3 5/8"d x 3"h. The red block is marbled with white and gray grains and spots. The top of the box is inlaid with the Chinese character for double happiness. The condition is very good with no repairs. There are some small chips from use, and the largest loss is to the side of one of the feet...

An antique Japanese Katana Tansu (sword storage chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Warabite style handles. Side handles for ease of carrying. Large drawer used to store the Katana while the medium drawer stored the Wakizashi. The small drawer stored the sharpening and cleaning supplies for the weapons.

19th century Chinese soapstone figure of Guanyin - the Boddhisattva of Compassion - holding a large lotus leaf on a stem behind her back. Nicely carved out of beautiful cream colored stone, wonderful tranquil face, graceful flow to the lines of her robe. Top part of the lotus leaf is reattached, repair is done very well, overall in good condition. Fixed in good quality hardwood stand. Height with stand 7 1/8 inches.

Kakhara is an implement for a wandering monk or pilgrim a Buddhist rattle to scare off small creatures like snakes and insects, and thus prevent the carrier from stepping on them.
