Large by Western standards, this is actually the "childs" size version of this foo dog necklace worn by the Chinese Miao minority 70-90 years ago. Made of low grade silver, typical of Chinese jewelry of the time period, the intricate pendant is 5.5 inches across, 6.5 inches long and suspended from a long hand-made chain. The heads of the foo dogs are in a pin which allows them to turn freely and the central "flower" is also suspended on a wire which allows it to spin.

Priceless Past

This is a set of three large bronze belt-hooks from the Khmer culture in ancient Southeast Asia (circa 12th century AD). Each one of the fabulous pieces measures roughly 16 cm in length. As can be seen clearly in the photos, they have some soil encrustation, patina, and slight damage as might be expected from pieces of this age. The stand (roughly 32 cm in height) is included in the purchase. These make a wonderful display/conversation piece.

A complete and original silver chatelaine made for a Chinese gentleman. Chatelaines are clips which were worn at the waist with chains suspended from them to hold a variety of useful items needed in daily life. Our chatelaine holds 3 grooming implements, one for cleaning under the nails and pushing back cuticles, a pair of tweezers for plucking stray facial hairs, and a third tool for cleaning the ear. A nice detail that I observed is that a stylized hand was carved at the end of the ear and na... Click for details

The belt hook depicts a bat in repousse design while carved into the vase are two of the eight immortals, Lan Ts'ai-ho and Tie Guai Li. Dangling below the vase is a white jade or glass bead with a very small metal tassel. Made of Chinese silver and in excellent condition, we date this piece from mid- to late 18... Click for details
