The inhalation of medicinal vapors was common practice during the late 19th and early 20th century. Inhaling devices came in many shapes and forms. This very decorative and functional inhaler was very popular during that period.

This lovely, late-Victorian-styled inhaler is primarily being sold for its original box. The box is complete and very detailed on all sides (including the top), sporting wonderful graphics and information on its many merits...

A vibrant Chinese cloisonné round covered box with lotus flowers and scrolling tendrils on a black ground. with fish scale pattern. With no condition issues, this lovely box measures 2.5” high by 3.5” in diameter. Marked CHINA on bottom, we date this circa 1900.

This 19th century Japanese unsigned hardwood okimono of SENNIN (hermit or immortal) is 2 1/8 inches tall, 1 inch wide and 1 ¼ inches in depth. He is carrying a basket of vegetables, and a small double gourd tied on his back. His right hand is missing; there are some chips on his nose, sleeves and both shoes.

Dainty Georgian pansy pin set with amethysts and citrines in 18K gold. Pansy pins were often given as a gift from a loved as the sound of the word pansy was similar to the French "pense", meaning "think, remember me". Time to continue the tradition.

A small Japanese square bronze table screen with a flying crane in openwork, raised and supported on the backs of two kirins, a mythical beast in Chinese mythology. At the top two holders, maybe for a brush. Condition: a small loss (one ear), one leg restored (see photo No. 11), bottom of sreen maybe with lost part?, patina. Dimension: c. 15.5 cm high, 18.5 cm wide, 8.3 cm deep.

Gold forms a billowing pine tree lavishly applied to the dark lacquered body of this wooden water jar enclosed in the original wooden box titled Ikkan Mage-Mizusashi, Oimatsu signed by both the wood craftsman and the lacquer artist. A dish intended for use in the kaseki meal decorated with three ragged fans inset within an arabesque of Hagi, bushclover, one of the seven plants of Autumn, that makes up the Akikusa-de. The sensu, Japanese folded fan, was often used as a seasonal motif representing the hot and dry months of summer, so the discarded ragged appearance of the fans shows that summer has ended, and that the winds of autumn have arrived...

Burmese wooden Buddha sitting in Mara Vijaya (calling the earth to witness) posture on a base, with meditative facial expression, gilded and decorated with inlay of colorful glass pieces on the headband and the borders of the robe. The buddha's robe is elegant with gold sheet and delicately carved as layers of pleat.

17th century Indian bronze votive sculpture depicting Vishnu in his avatar of Narasimha (the Man Lion) with his consort Lakshmi sitting on his left knee. Demon Hiranyakashipu could not have been killed neither by a man, nor an animal, so Vishnu took the above form to slay it. The main emphasis of this image is upon lion characteristics of fierceness, bravery and independence, while the presence of Lakshmi is a reference to more common Lakshmi-Narayana images...

Egyptian Faience Blue and Green Floral Amulet 1,9 cm

Faience is a glazed ceramic known for producing bright colours, especially blues, turquoises and greens. It is produced from quartz or sand crystals mixed with other compounds and can be cast into moulds to create beads or amulets like these ones. Faience gimmers in the light and was believed by the Egyptians to represent rebirth and immortality...

This early 20th century ceramic table screen is 7 inches tall, 5 ¼ inches wide and 2 ¼ inches deep. The front middle panel depicts landscapes; the side panels depict flowers and mushrooms. On the back of the middle panel there is a phoenix in spirit garden. Two plum blossoms are on side panels. It is in great condition.

A framed corresponding pair of Chinese 19th century embroidered sleevebands, each in gold couched stitching on blue silk with sea waves, mountains, floral and bats and 5 claws dragon and phoenix chasing at the pearl. Our C1780 muff chain has an unusual link in the shape of bows. These hand forged bow links continue all around the chain. Georgian muff chains were worn by women who would attach a muff to the chain to conveniently keep their hands warm and the chain was designed to allow the muff to fall at just the right place. This is why original muff chains were always long (shorter chains were generally part of a larger muff chain that has been cut down to make 2 or 3 necklaces)...
