Late Meiji to early Taisho (1890s to 1920) lacquered wood netsuke representing a Gigaku theater mask of Baramon - a brahmin of the priestly Indian caste. Rather rare mask, superb quality wonderfully expressive face, lighter wood (probably ichii - Japanese yew wood), excellent use of silvery lacquer. Height 2 1/8 inches.

Antique Chinese monochrome porcelain vase with a reddish orange speckle glaze, its body has a pear form with a tall, fluted foot and a fluted rim.

This charming old Chinese headband was handmade for a small child sometime in the late Qing dynasty. It is one of the nicest animal headbands that I have seen, and it is in good condition. The cat's face would have been worn at the child's forehead and is 3 dimensional. Made with silk fabric, with silk thread for the elaborately embroidery, the face is complete with ears that flap, and side paws. Opened at the back seam for easy framing, it can easily be re-sewn to fit display stand.

Antique Japanese framed abstract print, signed Takeshi Hara (1942-present) in pencil, number 36/60, titled "Strokes 74-1". Hara was born in Nagoya, Japan in 1942 and graduated the Oil Painting Dept. of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts in 1967. He later went on to become a professor in the Dept. of Painting at Tokyo Zokei University until he retired in 2008...

A Chinese celadon jade plaque carved on both sides with fish, flowers and aquatic motifs. The border has a series of convex circles. Nice, even colour of the stone. size: 3 inches x 2 3/10 inches. condition; very good, no breaks, no restoration.

Small antique Chinese white jade plaque, carved in the shape of two birds positioned beak to beak, beautiful tail feathers swirl together at the bottom to resemble archaic chimera, carved on both sides. Size: 2 1/2" high x 1 3/8" wide x 1/4" thick.

Japanese Satsuma Earthenware round covered Container, signed by Sozan, Ca. Meiji period 1868-1912, 1 3/4" high, 2 5/8" diameter, very fine quality of brush strokes, family gathering in courtyard setting in the center, surrounded by very intricate small floral and mosaic design outer area on the round high dome top cover, and continue on to the bottom piece...

The nobori banners, carps, warrior's Yoroi and Kabuto helmets, samurai dolls and swords were all a part of the display used for Boy's Day (renamed Children's Day) on May 5th in Japan. They reflect the parent's wish (at the time that they were made) to inspire their sons in manliness, discipline, bravery and the honor codes which are associated with them.

Originally, Nobori were used on the battlefield to identify the troops; some were to show the warriors where their taisho (general) was...

This was the traditional jacket used by girls of the Yi Chinese ethnic Minority. Girls wore this style until they were married. This garment is small and was most likely worn by a child between 7-10 years old. It is sun faded and has an area of small drip stains on the lower back and is otherwise in good condition...No rips, no tears...2 traditional silver buttons

Antique Chinese porcelain vase with a blue and white glaze made from ground cobalt. It has five ferocious dragons twisting around the body of the vase, with flames and puffs of smoke around the body. Double ring mark on bottom. Size: 5.5" height, 3.5" width

An antique Japanese rare Tanuki (badger dog) that originates from the famous kiln region of Shigaraki, Japan. It was made in an Oribe glaze and it is shown holding a sake bottle in its right hand and a burl wood walking staff in its left hand. It is artist signed on the back.

The Tanuki is a shape shifter turning into various objects or people causing it to get into mischief and often comical adventures...

DESCRIPTION: A Chinese scholar’s calligraphy brush, the brush crafted with natural bristles encased in a horn ferrule. These are secured with a silver band to a pitted green jade handle inscribed with archaic characters and terminating in a round knob. A quality, well made brush in excellent condition, most likely dating to the latter Qing Dynasty to early republic Period. DIMENSIONS: 9 ¼” long (23.5 cm).

Beautiful carved dark green jade toggle of miniature chimera on top of coins and surrounded by vines. The jade stone shows natural orange striations. Nicely carved details. Age: Republic Period (c.1920) Size: 1.75" by 1.25"

DESCRIPTION: A small Japanese Sumida vase with round neck rim covered in a rich, thick flambe glaze running to the shoulders; a high relief figure of a young boy in a green robe is balanced upon rockery on the ribbed red body of the vase. Excellent condition with no chips; unmarked base. DIMENSIONS: 4 3/4" high (12 cm) x 2 1/2" diameter (6.5 cm)...

A good quality and well carved She shaped (韘型佩) nephrite pendant, decorated with dragon and phoenix. Han style, but we believe that it was carved later, maybe Qing Dynasty. Condition: Good antique condition, natural veins, brown and dark inclusions, please see photos for details. Length: a little less than 3 inches.

This early 20th century Chinese ceramic carved white brush holder is 5 ¼” high and 3 ¾” in diameter. It depicts a tiger standing on top of mountain surround by far away mountains, pine trees and bamboo. There are peony and small chrysanthemums beneath the tiger and a lucky bat is flying on the top. The seal of the maker, Chen Guo Zhi, is carved on the bottom. Chen Guo Zhi (1821~1861) was a well known artist...

Small hard stone vase, probably jadeite. Pale green color spotted with white and bright green with brown veins. The polish of the stone is rather matte than shiny. Finely carved hardwood base. Chinese work 19° or early 20° century. The dull polish of the stone would lead us to date it to the end of the Qing or earlier. Good condition, no restoration, the veins of the stone are not glued and are solid. Total height: 14cm. Vase without the base 11cm.

Heart-shaped purse embroidered on both sides in counted stitch with bats in gold thread among clouds. Burgundy colored drawstring and tassels with silver and gold threads, paper lining. Condition: fabric of the aperture somewhat brittle. Dimension: 9.5 cm x 8.5 cm x c. 1.5 cm.
