Antique Japanese suzuri bako, or calligraphy box, made from keyaki (zelkova) hardwood with hand-forged iron hardware. The top of the box is hinged with a large, shallow compartment. The front has two small drawers with iron rings pulls. This box would have once been used for storing ink stones and other calligraphy articles.

Antique two-section Keyaki wood tansu from the Fukushima region of Japan. It has a beautiful, warm woodgrain, iron warabite handles, with cherry blossom and leaf iron decorations above and below each handle, and a corner lockbox with a flower-shaped lock handle and ring pull with flower backing. 19th century Meiji Period. Japanese antique cha tansu (tea chest), made with beautiful keyaki (elm) wood burl on panels, top 2 sliding panels are made of a lighter color hardwood burl, all panels are trimmed in persimmon wood. One drop in panel with an interesting walnut shaped pull. The chest has a total of 7 drawers of different sizes. Glass sliding panels cover a compartment with stepped shelves for display. Antique Japanese rare two-section isho tansu (clothing chest) with a very interesting burl wood front, and lacquered sides. Each of its very large drawers has its own custom incised lockplate with imagery of cherry blossoms, bamboo, cranes, and other auspicious elements. Beautiful tansu with a natural kiri wood front and gorgeous lacquer sugi frame, with iron hardware and black Iron handles on each of its drawers. Small locking door with a kan (ring shape) pull on its front. Its left and right sides have two iron handles and one large locking handle. Antique Japanese pair of wooden fu dog guardians from a temple in Kyoto. Hand-carved with charming signs of old age. One with curly mane, one with straight mane, posed in fierce protective stance. Momoyama Period (circa 1600's). Very original and Unusual. Size: 3.75" H x 1.5" L x 2.5" D

Attractive antique sterling engraved Match Safe Case, marked W&H CO. STERLING 1, comprising a rectangular shape with engraved leaf and branch design on the front, Victorian monogram SHR, decorative engraving on back, hinged top. Nice patina of old silver. Shows some wear with pin dots and small indents. May need cleaning. Measures 2 1/4" tall x 1 1/8" wide.

Chinese porcelain figure of Zhongli Quan, one of the Eight Immortals in Chinese culture or Taoism. His attribute is a fan which is said to bring the dead back to life and turn stone into gold or silver. He wears an open robe with gilt accenting, and comes with a fitted hand carved hardwood stand. Cover hinged with tapering tab and gently curved top. Low-relief ornament in form of rectilinear frames with double borders and with leafing scrollwork on sides and cover top. Velvet-lined interior. With key. Fully marked including maker’s and retailer’s (Theodore B. Starr) stamps...
