Antique Japanese ikebana basket made of woven bamboo, with large strips of bamboo interwoven with a network of thinner strips, and a tightly twisted handle. The inner vase is a large section of bamboo lined with metal.

Special offer: Heavily distorted shoe shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl with a strongly flaring mouth made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potters knife in its lower part and covered with a very deep black iron oxide glaze inside and outside.

A 'window' on the side has been left unglazed and is decorated with a square divided into two white and two black section accompanied on each side by two circles with the same patterns...

Antique Japanese Funa Tansu (ship safe chest) made all of quarter sawn cut Keyaki (elm) wood with revealing natural woodgrain and finish. Cut out appliqué hardware with incised floral motifs adorns the body of the tansu. There are six drawers altogether.

Antique Chinese tasseled blue silk pouch, with embroidered flowers, a butterfly, and a rooster. The character below the embroidery butterfly is "Shou", for longevity while the butterfly is a symbol for love. A rooster symbolizes good luck and fortitude.

A Chinese, very long, purple beaded necklace with bright green stone beads (possibly jade), blue fabric tassels with blue glass drops, small wooden round beads carved with saints' faces, silver medallions with green threads. Adorable small pair of egg yolk colored peking glasses with stands included. These small pieces are charming collectables. Both under four inches tall with stands, have a pumpkin shaped base, thin long necks with a flared mouth. Each glass vase is unique, with slightly different sized bases.

Antique Chinese porcelain container with paintings of children playing in a garden. Each child holds different items, such as a lantern, a staff, lily pads with lotuses, a paintbrush and an ink pot, and they wear beautiful robes in light shades of blue, pink, purple, and green that are quite pleasing to the eye. The lid is painted with pomegranates and peaches and is topped with two peaches with six leaves sticking out, making it look like a cute insect...

A Set of Six Export Plates. Each decorated in the centre in underglaze blue with three geese on rocks with another in flight above. The rim with chrysanthemum, carnation, peony, pomegranate, melon and finger citron in iron red, gilding and green enamels. Qianlong C1760. Diameter: 9″ (22.9 cm) Condition: some minor fritting. One plate with some crazing to the centre and a 1.6 cm glaze crack to the underside rim, another with a shallow 0.65 cm flake to underside rim.

A beautiful Annan tea bowl with silver repair (gintsugi) and fine sense of "aji" bestowed by age. Ornately decorated with flowering chrysanthemum, the skillfully applied silver repair to the bowl implies that it was treasured by its previous owner.

Annan-Yaki, is a tradition of pottery brought to Japan from the Annan province of ancient Imperial China (now part of Vietnam) from the late Muromachi period (1392 - 1573)...

Antique Korean vanity box made with attractive burl hardwood, decorated in incised brass hardware of bats, double happiness signs, and floral motifs. The feet are carved with beast's faces. Turn of the century.

This is an exceptional Famille Rose Enameled Porcelain Snuff Bottle of circular form, with flared neck, and raised recessed oval footing; decorated with scrolling lotus blossoms and vines, set atop a yellow background. The body of the porcelain under the glaze has incised engravings in a spiraling circular pattern that is barely visible. The underside bearing, in iron red, the Daoguang Mark (1821-50), the period when this bottle was made...

Here we present a real old Ko-Karatsu Tenmoku Chawan with a wonderful yobitsugi repair. It dates from the early stages of the Japanese Azushi-Momoyama Period (1573-1603).

A yobitsugi repair is not just a simple repair, it is a recreation by using laquer and some fragments of broken pottery of the same or a similar kiln. The result is a breathtaking consistency of 'landscape' (keshiki)...

A fine Japanese boxwood netsuke carving of a tanuki, peering upwardly while holding a large sake container and a ledger book. He is a trickster spirit and is a highly amusing and popular icon. The netsuke has an expertly detailed carved form with a shell inlay signature on his underside.

This is Noragi used in Shiga area for the Meiji period. The trace which this is a white thread, and was repaired many times is very impressive. As for this, good expression was left by calm good work. This was left until the present age without being canceled. He is carrying a Fan on his right hand. Excellent form, expression and bright colors, trademarks of Nagamichi Shuzan. It is signed Shuzan in an irregular reserve on the back of his right leg. Netsuke measures 0.92 inches (2.3cm) wide, and 2.20 inches (5.5cm) tall...

A Rare Korean Fine White Glazed Baluster Shape Porcelain Jar-18th C.: Korea, Joseon Period, 18th century. The finely potted baluster form with bulbous shouler and tapering waist and raised mouth rim, decorated with an overall warm and slilght blue tinged white glaze applied, some areas slightly discolored in firing. It’s in fine condition but a small chip repaired near the foot (see photo #2), otherwise very fine condition, it measures 10.25” h. x 8” (26cm x 20.8cm).

Archaic Chinese jade carving of a bird with a fish on its head. This old jade has a white calcification covering the entire surface which is known as "chicken bone". This white calcification is due to the jade being burned in very ancient rituals revolving around life and death. Beautiful, fine detailing...

Starting from about 18,000 years ago, the Neolithic Age marked the end of the Stone Age in Chinese history. During the period, great changes took place in all aspects of humans’ life. Human beings in the Neolithic Age no longer lived only on collecting foods directly from nature...

A simple, small but stout iron tsuba. The Myochin line of metal workers were armor makers who also produced tsuba. The simple decoration upper-right here could be a flower head or a snowflake. Udenuki-ana appear lower left. Good condition. Height 2 3/4 inches (69 cm), Width 2 9/16 inches (65 cm), and 6/32 of an inche (5 mm) thick.

Gorgeous Huanghuali hardwood Chinese altar table, with dramatic woodgrain featuring natural "eyes" in the burl patterns. The lower apron is handcarved with scrolling vines, its two legs are wide with carved lingzhi mushrooms.

20th Century

Half cylinder shaped (Hanzutsu) tea bowl, thrown from light, coarse Mino clay, with very little inclusions a clay found on earlier Shino bowls. The walls are cut with a potters knife.

The bowl has been covered fully (with the exception of the foot ring) first with an iron bearing engobe (oniita) and after the decoration had been incised with the typical ash and feldspar glaze inside and outside creating the nezumi-shino glaze...

Chinese Neolithic jade carving of a bird, carved of the Hongshan culture (4700-2900 BC), with orange areas in contrast to the overall green tone. The back of the bird's head is carved with a small hole to be worn as a pendant.

A religious temple painting of a yellow buddha surrounded by 10 deity attendants. Seated atop a lotus throne, the buddha makes a gesture of reassurance, abbaya mudra, with his right hand, and a gesture of liberality with his left hand, varada mudra. There is an inset inscription on the left. Chosun Dynasty 17th/18th century. It measures 50" wide by 54" tall by 2.5" deep. Incense marks throughout. Previously featured in the 2008 Arts of Pacific Asia show.

A very unusual Korean chest with a complex network of geometric designs on its front, top, and sides, brass hardware incised with floral motifs, two front doors with large brass lock and working key, opening to a beautiful interior of persimmon laminate front drawers. The middle drawer opens with a special secret latch underneath it.
