A beautiful English George III string ebony and mahogany sideboard with original Lion Head Hardware, measuring 72” wide, 28” deep, amd 36” height

A fine quality Kameyama-yaki auspicious Peach form, momogata, bowl delicately and painstakingly painted in the Chinese Literati style with Sansui scene for which the Kameyama kiln was renowned. The reverse decorated with auspicious Lotus motifs to the reverse and a small seal mark for the Kameyama kiln. A similar moulded dish with sprig decoration to the rim is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York (Accession number 93.3.453 and there dated 1820)...

Offered is this pair of hand-painted, elephant-handled, ormolu-mounted vases (the vases have been drilled at their bottoms, and as such, could be used for either displaying dry flowers or as lamp bases), made around 1890. Each one is 15 3/4 inches (40 cm) tall and 9 3/4 inches (25 cm) wide. They are in excellent condition, without chips, cracks or repairs (there is age-appropriate tarnishing of the metal and fading of the paint)...

Perfect potting, elegant shape, beautiful underglaze powder green ground, eyes and beaks of of the birds are done in underglaze blue, in perfect condition. A rare Chaffers Liverpool porcelain hexagonal beaker, handpainted in blue and white. The design, taken from the Chinese, shows alternating panels of floral groups, with a trellised and floral diaper along the upper rim.

The condition of this piece is excellent, with no cracks or restoration. There is a tiny firing bite at the rim, and the bottom shows kiln bubbling common to this factory. The height is 3" and the diameter is 2 3/8"...

Box sides have embossed blossoming branches, bamboo, and bird; engraved leaves and flowers at corners. Cover top has embossed slithering, scaly dragons with horns and talons in same frame; blossoming branches at corners. Ground stippled. Maker's mark for Guang Qing Yong. The head of longish oval shape, with clearly delineated eyes and lids lowered in meditation, a smiling mouth and tiny curls covering head and ushnisha.

Sandstone was a highly coveted material during the early part of the Ayutthaya period, and the use of curved lines and petite bumps for hair reflect the influence of Indian Gupta stylization.

DESCRIPTION: A fine and very sculptural Chinese Duan ink stone in the form of a bell with a deeply carved water well on one end, and a flaring flat surface on the other for mixing ink.
