A small eggshell-thin dish with a decoration of two birds and two fan-shaped panels - one with a landscape, the other with a poem (?), all in a variety of colours, 19th c. Wing of one bird has been painted as to conceal a glaze bubble, an indication of age. Overglaze red marks: Hirado san, Mikawachi. Diameter "5 ½/ 13 cm. Condition: fine.

He bestows good luck on his worshippers, and is invoked in marriage ceremonies and in some forms of Tantric worship. The size of Kogai: 6 3/4" Long x 9/16" Wide x 3/8" Thick. Beautiful Japanese Bekko(turtoise shell) Kogai, Hair Pin. It has both end carved with the design of Manryo(Ardisia crenata Sims), Japanese plant with red berry which is symbol of wealth. Ten thousand Ryo(10,000 Gold Edo Coin). The both end has carved open holes. Kogai is consisted with three layers to build the this thickness and carved out beautifully all sides...

A bowl or cup of unusual Klapmuts form with an angled everted rim decorated in under-glaze blue with Auntumn grasses, akikusa. Shards of identical cups have been excavated from the Okawachi kiln site and dated to the late Edo period and the first half of the Nineteenth century. The bowl measures 9.8cm in diameter and stands 6.8cm high and the foot-ring measures 3.4cm in diameter. It is in good condition with no cracks, chips or restoration...

An interesting 18th century pewter plate, the border with an engraved motto, Suum cuique, written on a ribbon above an open book resting on a diagonally striped bar. As presented on this plate this is the crest and motto for the Scottish Clan Don. It is a Latin phrase meaning “to everybody his/her own”, historically used in freemasonry and in legal contexts, like serving as motto for the faculty of law at universities...

A Canton enamel squash blossom jewel or trinket box from the 1880s 1890s. This lovely and large Chinese enamel on metal box measures 4-1/2 x 3-1/2" and it stands 2-3/4" high on its foot rim. It is nicely worked with a fine life-like appearance and the hand applied enamel is in yellow, green and blue. The interior is light blue as is the underside...

A superb and very heavy quality silver plated fruit bowl with high relief designs and scrolling c1890, made by E.G. Webster & Son of Brooklyn, New York. Chinese Bamboo top heavy Hardwood framed low square table, Ca, late 1800's to early 1900's, 16" high, 22" square, with open Bamboo top framed with heavy Hardwood square legs with stretcher under the top. There are burn marks on top of the Bamboo and shows wear and tear with age but very strong and solid piece of table.

A small Bilston patch box, enamel on copper, mid-18th century, in a design somewhere between Rococo and Louis XVI: the outer shape softly rounded, the pattern more strict, of diaper type, textile-like. Patches, often in black silk, were used to conceal scars or blemishes from smallpox or other diseases. At the time Bilston, a town in West Midlands was famous for their enamel boxes. Width "1 ¾ / 4.8 cm. Condition: enamel flakes to lid and base (cf. pics).

Tea bowl with enamelled blue and gilt decoration, Jiaqing c 1800. The blue inside border with small stars in gilt makes it probable that the bowl was intended for the American market. Height: 2" / 5 cm, diam: 3 1/2" / 9 cm. Condition: rim frits.

the woman of many Chinese Ethnic Minority groups did not cut their hair. It was often worn on the top of the head in a bun,and sometimes intertwined with lengths of an ancestors hair for added protection from evil spirits.

The hair was often (especially for festivals) decorated with added silver ornaments and/or hairpins.
