This Bamboo container possibly tea caddy of Qing Dynasty, nicely carved with a picture of deer. "luk" in chinese cultue symbolizes success in officialdom for a scholar or for Mandarin, also meaning high officialdom and accomplished achievement in community or as an aspiration in service to the Empire. The Calligraphy "chin chung pau kok" means contribute and serve the nation with all u have eg. skills, knowlegde, loyalty and etcs. Estimate to be from 19th century or earlier...

Description:

A wood water basin was nicely carved in shape of a lotus leaf with a lotus pond.
It was preserved in very good condition by nice brownish patina.
Some of the seeds in the lotus pond were still movable when some were sticked but nothing is missing.
It was a charming and very rare piece by this type.
Most of the old wood pieces were made as brush pots in relief carving...

Antique Tansu cover (yutan) with a family crest of crane. There are few Yutans left in original shape like this one. The fabric is a loosely hand woven cotton and is made to fit over the tansu (cabinet), the size of 40" by 18". This cover can be dissembled into a flat cloth of 27 inches by 118 inches. The condition of the fabric appears to be in new condition with two holes between the 72" to 74" location...

A Yuan Longquan Celadon Ewer. Length approximately 8.3 cm (the tipspout to the handle) and height 5.2 cm (the bottom to the rim). Few hairlines at the ewer. Good condition.

There are a total of eight signs, each with a different "saying" having to do with well wishes. Due to the age of the calligraphy, and the vagueres of the old Chinese language, accurate translations have not been possible for each sign. This old Japanese hand made sack (basket,bag) was made by a rural farmer or fisherman out of cotton cording. Handle holes were worked into the upper band which would have allowed for the changing of worn out handles. There is obvious wear and fading from use and age. The bag measures almost 11 x 15 inches It is Wonderful old ethnographic example of rural Japanese textile folk art
