Rare Chinese Yuan Dynasty Burnished Black Pottery Groom Figure (32.5cm)

This impressive and attractive pottery figure was made during the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368). Such figures from the Yuan Dynasty are very distinctive and are particularly rare and desirable. The surface of such Yuan figures is typically fired to grey, or almost black, and sometimes, as in this case, burnished to a smooth finish.

Imperial Chrysanthemum sterling silver soup ladle. Made by Gorham in Providence, ca 1900. Tapering stem with waisted terminal and lobed round bowl. Dense ornament with flowers and leaves. Bowl interior gilt-washed with same. A nice serving piece in the late-comer Japonesque pattern, which was first produced in 1894. Fully marked including maker’s stamp. Very good condition.

This porcelain ewer was produced in England by Coalport in the 1890s. The ewer measuresm7 1/8 inches tall and has a diameter of 3 1/4 inches. The ground color is cream with a hint of yellow. This is an exciting little repousse plaque or pendant found in the city of Gilgit. The city of Gilgit was an important hub along the silk road. The image and decor of the piece appears to be Gandharan but as I am not an expert on that particular culture I could be mistaken in my attribution. This piece measures roughly 2 cm square. This ceramic tile was produced in the United States in the 1880s or 1890s. It is unmarked but it may have been produced at the Trent Tile Company of Trenton, New Jersey. A finely carved cylinder seal in brown serpentine stone, Mesopotamia, Neo-Assyrian Empire, c. 9th.-8th. cent. BC.

The seal is carved with an interesting beast, probably winged horse or Bull beside a large rosette symbol of the Sun-God. Attractive!
