Fine and rare early example of a Jomon Period Dogu Clay Figure, the earliest
known Japanese figures. The Dogu acted as effigies of people. They
manifested some kind of sympathetic magic. For example, it may have been
believed that illnesses could be transferred into the Dogu, and then
destroyed, clearing the illness, or any other misfortune. Because of the
ritual destruction of Dogu, they are quite rare. This primitive abstract
fertility figure has a futuristic look...

culture, and is sometimes used as an icon to represent Japan. A fine example of this type of mask rendered by a master carver, using cypress wood (Hinoki) and many layers of
Gofun, crushed oyster shell lacquer. A very charming, hypnotic, well rendered

A Chinese box of grey celadon jade and rectangular shape with rounded corners. The body is very thinly carved , resembling the Mughal manner and the cover is delicately incised with a bird in a tree. Elegant in its simplicity and precision, it typifies the 18 C. lapidary art on small jade objects. Age: 18 C. size: 2 7/10 inches x 1 7/10 inches x 3/5 inch high when closed. ( 6.6 cm x 4.5 cm x 1.5cm high when closed.
Signed Late 19th Century Meiji Period Japanese Noh Mask of the jealous female spirit, Hannya. One of the most famous of Noh Masks, sought after by serious collectors. From our Southeast Asia Collection, a very good 18th century gilded bronze Thai buddha, seated in bhumisparsa mudra, gilded lacquer over bronze with interesting glass inserts to the base, and all the indicia of legitimate age and genuineness.

This finely-carved, wooden netsuke depicts a basket of lotus florals. The himotoshi are carved in an interesting fashion on the underside. This piece is in excellent

Circa 1890 German Silver smaller bowl. All hand-pierced and repousse. The bowl measures 5.5" in diameter and 3" tall. It is stamped on the bottom "Brahmfeld & Gutrue" and "800" and a crown mark. The overall weight is 258.3 grams.

A blend of beautiful materials and fine craftmanship create this wonderful Victorian pique locket, circa 1860 made of tortoise shell and inlaid with gold and sterling silver to form a whimsical rose and rose leaves design, on a tortoise shell bail. The locket opens to store two photos or lock of hair. Each frame rimmed with twisted gold and glass covered. Description:
A black pottery inks-tone was a rare survivor of scholar items from ancient time.
With characteristic image of a toad, the ink-stone was assembled by a cover and a basin.
Vividly it was depicted on the surface with toad's skin when old adhesives were preserved within the pleats.
One old chip was found on the side of the cover.

A relatively large rosewood stand with scroll-ends design. late 19th to early 20th century. Good antique condition, some age cracks and uneven edges on both ends of the timber. The shape of the stand is slightly out of square. Length: 19"; width: 11-3/4"; height: 4-1/2".
Beautiful Japanese small commemorative sake dish. Round shape on footed base and incised. The bottom of each dish is inscribed as the 12th, 13th, and 14th National Weaving Competition. The silver sake dishes were made by Yamazaki Shoten of Ginza. Each has its own tomobako with seal. Age: Taisho Period (1912-1925) Sizes: Small dish: 1" h x 3" diameter, approx. 50 grams.
