Japanese heavy Brocade silk Shrine Uchishiki, or altar cover, Meiji period, 1868-1912, 26" x 26" square, Gold and Silver brocaded double Phoenix birds in the gold metallic background and narrow bands of egg plant color background between. Water stain in one corner on the silk backing, not in front, otherwise the condition is good, still retain the thread to keep the edges flat. There are some writings in the back, but not able to read.
Antique Japanese two section cha tansu (tea chest) made with beautiful burl wood front drawer panels, and persimmon wood front frame, in all original lacquer finish. The top section has two burl sliding doors and two very large textured glass panel doors, the interior of which has very unique shelving with natural wood accents, lacquered in red. The bottom most section has six drawers, two small sliding burl panels and one hinged door...
Chinese late Ming dynasty Wanli period porcelain kendi with a compressed globular body and mammiform spout decorated on the globular body in underglaze cobalt blue with flowers and scrolling foliage. Leafy peaches and ribboned lozenges decorate the spout and a band around the shoulder. The tubular neck, which flares to a wide disk shaped mouth, is painted with a stiff leaf band. Pair of Japanese antique abumi (horse riding stirrups), made of iron with silver inlay all over in beautiful designs of vines and leaves, the bottom of each stirrup is decorated with a bamboo motif, the foot areas are lacquered black, each abumi is inlaid with writing: Kaga Ishikawa Prefecture, Mori Hei Saku (artist's name and "signed by") lived in Komaki. Edo Period (18th century).

A Pwo Karen woman's tunic completely embroidered with lozenge-shaped and zigzag pattern, accentuated with Job's tears seeds. Condition: few loose threads, clean. Dimension: c. 65 x 53 cm. A beautiful, iridescent, Favrile glass bowl and underplate, made by Tiffany Studios around 1910. Both pieces are signed and are in fine condition. The plate is 6 3/4 inches wide while the bowl is 4 inches wide at the top.
Antique Japanese pair of three-section kiri (paulownia) wood tansu, with metal hirute shaped handles and fan-shaped locks on multi-sized drawers. The top section of each tansu has two large sliding doors, with inner shelving carved in an attractive alter style and two small drawers. One tansu has a middle section with two large doors on attractive hinges incised with a motif of kiri leaves, and a round pierced metal decoration with kiri leaves and flowers...
These 3 small oil lamps were brought back to the US by a Baptist missionary who lived and traveled extensively throughout China. Oil lamps like these were used for light source extensively throughout rural China by poor peasants. Simply made, presumed cut from scraps of tin and soldered into shape.. the lids come off for filling with oil and some original home made wicks remain in place.
The tallest is 5 inches high...

This pair is part of a collection we are posting on the site. These are often misidentified as crossbow arrow ends. However, to our knowledge no such items have ever been found associated with crossbow bolts. These particular pieces went over the ends of the wooden ribs in large parasols. The protruding hooks put tension on the strings or straps that were attached to the skin of the parasol. An ornate Victorian or early Art Nouveau period silver plated belt circa 1895 - 1900. This antique hand engraved 25-3/4" long belt consists of a two-part 2-3/4" wide ornate buckle with tongue and loop clasp, which is attached to fancy 1-1/4" across hand engraved panels linked with wire loops with small spacers. It is stamped EPNS with an FFE maker's mark in a shield and it can be shortened by the removal of some of the spacers...
This is the kimono which a girl wore for the Taisho era period. The pattern is ball and Spinning top and others. A color is pretty, and this is stylish. There are 2.3 places of small stains, but does not stand out. There is no damage. Size 92cm x 81cm (36.2 "x 31.8")
Baby's ceremonial kimono made of machine woven cotton with hand-painting with motif of noble people. It has se-mamori (charm) with silk thread. The diagonal stitches to the left means it is boy's kimono ( to the right is girl's ). In old days, it is believed that evils come from back and a baby is vulnerable without seam in the back, so se-mamori is put. In good condition but a bit dusty from aging. Dry cleaning only.
