Antique, Islamic Multan Sindh,19th century India, a baluster-shaped pottery vase with a trumpet neck. Hand-painted in cobalt blue, turquoise, and green with floral vines and acanthus motifs on a white background under a rich, thick, clear glaze.

CONDITION: The vase is in good condition, considering its age of more than 100 years, with no cracks, restorations, or repairs. There is a small imperfection at the rim of the base that looks like the chip...

Exterior is covered in black lacquer with silver rims encircling both the bottom and lid. The interior of the lid is decorated in very finely-painted gold and silver lacquer with a scene of fish swimming among seaweed. A small rectangular red lacquer signature in seal form is seen on the left margin of the painting. The base of the box is also signed by the artist in gold lacquer. Kanban with identical inscription on both sides: goko (five scents), a general, government licensed medication against all kinds of ailments. Middle brown wood with carved inscription, painted brown, gold and red. Forged iron handle on top.
Height with handle 22 5/8 in. (58.2 cm), without handle 21 in. (53.9 cm), width 7 in. (18 cm).
Some of the colors chipped out of the grooves, partly repainted and chipping again, some minor, short cracks and chips around the handle...

The only differences between this matching pair of Japanese woman's hair combs are the very slight details in the hand-painted design and the size and spacing of the tines. The finely detailed lacquer design was painted in 3 shades of gold. Unfortunately the minute details, flower petals and tree knots are hard to see in the photos.

Rich patina jizaikagi hearth fish from the Taisho Period C.1920. The pot stabalizers had an iron rod through the fish that went up into a long bamboo pole that had an iron hook on the bottom to hold the iron pot over the hearth fire in old japanese farm houses. Three elongated light blue plaques mounted in antique brass bow frames with screw-on backs. The plagues measure about 2" wide x 3" high, and are in excellent condition. A genuine Guangxu Da Ya Zhai Porcelain Turquoise Bowl (1875-1908) with period markings and a lobed rim. Size: H. 3.5" x 8" top diameter and 3" bottom diameter.
