19th century bronze netsuke in a shape of a double gourd. Nicely made, very pleasant brown patina, swinging loop around its waist for hanging. Fixed brass stopper to its neck. Length 2.21 inches.

Late Meiji (1890s to 1910s) bone obidome (sash ornament) carved as a pair of swimming carp. Obidome is worn on an obi cord that holds the obi sash together, it is the only type of jewelry worn by Japanese women on formal occasions, and could serve as netsuke as well. Clever design, good quality carving, nice finish and patina, two metal fittings on the back for an obi cord. Length 2.95 inches.

19th century netsuke in button form carved out of the coronet part of a deer antler. Strong early piece, nicely chunky, beautiful staining, warm patina, natural blemishes as is usual with staghorn, which make it so attractive. Wonderful tactile object. Average diameter 2.15 inches.

19th century Japanese ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved out of a fruit pit as a mother monkey eating a fruit with 3 babies loitering in her arms while a teenager climbed on her back and is eating a smaller fruit on her head. Wonderfully captured mood of the scene, very nice carving with great level of detail, wonderful faces, pleasant mellow patina. Height 1 inch.

19th century Japanese leather tobacco pouch with kiseruzutsu (tobacco pipe holder). Bronze kanemono - pouch clasp - is made in a shape of a roof tile bearing Toyotomi mon - the crest of the Toyotomi clan. Ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) appears to be bone stained coral red. The pipe case is made out of dark celluloid type material and has a dent in it as seen on photos. The pouch still contains a bit of finely shredded tobacco...

19th century lacquer ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved in medium relief with various auspicious objects - a drum, a magic collar and a sword in fur scabbard. Material for the piece is created by layering differently colored lacquer, so the sides of incisions show those differently colored layers. Wonderful work, beautiful design, metal liner to the central hole. Height 3/4 inches.

A Royal Doulton Chiné stoneware jug or pitcher with pewter lid, c 1890, partly gilt and enamelled in turquoise, blue and white. The Chiné pattern, where a textile – lace - was pressed into the clay to create the desired effect, was invented by Slater, director of Doulton from 1887 to 1936. Pearlware cup and saucer decorated with a silver resist (platinum) border of vines within thin red lines. As a cheaper alternative to luxury silver services and to avoid tarnishing, platinum on porcelain was used in the early 19th century. Silver resist or silver lustre wares were produced mainly in Staffordshire, before silver-plated metals took over the market. This cup and saucer was made around 1820 and is unmarked.
