Large and beautiful Late Gothic type of door or gate key, European, probably German, c. 1550 AD.

The key with enforced bit with slots, decorated hollow stem and a beautiful oval decorated bow. Much remnants of original copper metal on the stem and later silvering / tinned.

Size: 130 mm. solidly built.

Interesting study collection of 16 miniature keys, each quite rarely seen since these would have been lost due to their small sizes, mostly 18th.-19th. century, a few probably 17th. century.

Such keys would have been used to unlock very small boxes and tiny coffins in the old days.
