Japanese green studio crackle ware vase with applied silver floral motifs. With tomobako. The foot is signed Shofu Katei (1870-1928). Small wear losses.

Shofu Katei was born in 1870 in Seto, Japan. He later moved to Kyoto where has was adopted into the prestigious Shofu family kiln to create Japanese ceramics. In 1908, he set up the Shofu Ceramics Company, Ltd. and was awarded a Green Ribbon in 1915.

A Rare Chinese Song glazed box with a design on the lid. Age: 1127 - 1279 AD. Size: Diameter.13.5cm. Condition: No repairs. Natural age crackling and age crack.

An iridescent magenta and orange ciselé vase, pinched. Bohemian, Loetz or Kralik, made around 1900. Height "4 ½ / 11 cm. Polished pontil, unmarked. Condition: a small bubble near the line of the wooden mold and a nick to the mouth rim (cf. pics).

Beautiful open salt, finely cut in diamond, fan and rib patterns. Probably made in Sweden c 1900 by Kosta or Reijmyre glassworks. Width "3/ 7.7 cm. Condition: fine.

A faïence vase by Cantagalli with silverluster and blue decoration in the Hispano-Moresque or Ottoman style, c 1880-90. Ulysse Cantagalli, Florence, drew his inspiration from Arts and Crafts designers like William de Morgan, from Italian Renaissance and Islamic ceramics. Marked with the singing cockerel of the Cantagalli factory. Height "4 ¾ / 13 cm. Condition: mouth rim with two minimal glaze flakes, and a glaze burst near the foot rim (cf. pics).

The solid form with peg himotôshi carved in sunken relief with a Karako holding a fan on his left hand and carrying on his right hand a tree branch divided into four sections that hold objects that depict the four working classes of Japan: Farmer, Merchant, Craftsman, and Samurai, as well as inlaid tortoise shell and coral beads. One of the hanging objets, the tablet with the inscription that reads: ‘Dai Fuku Cho” – Great Fortune Accounting Book-, depicts the Merchant class...

Late Qing Dynasty (1880s to 1911) Chinese bronze incense burner in a shape of a standing mandarin duck with its head raised. Wings and tail are decorated in champleve technique with red, green, blue, turquoise and yellow enamels with designs referring to ancient Chinese bronzes. The wings of the creature form a removable cover that fits perfectly. Excellent quality casting - see the head with incised lines around its beak and eyes, and detailing of its webbed feet...

A very nice 19th C, Tongzhi era (1861-1875), porcelain dish showing a Qilin, a fabulous creature which appears in various forms and is associated with the wish for sons. In excellent condition, it measures 6.5 inches in diameter and about 1" high.

A very large Imari charger with a painted dragon in the center chasing the elusive flaming pearl. The panels have various paintings of dancers and country scenes. It is unusual to see dragons in Japanese Imari plates. The back has been wired for hanging. Size: Diameter. 45.3cm. Condition: Perfect.

A rare set of three Deshima (Scheveningen) small bowls of lobed lotus petal form, two of which have all the elements of the traditional Deshima pattern, cups in this pattern appear to be exceptionally rare in the literature compared with flat wares, and one with a Chinese interpretation of the scene, where the figures and landscape are transposed into Chinese Immortals and a traditional Chinese style landscape, examples of which appear in the Burghley Collection etc...

An unusual bone handle dagger decorated with a turquoise stone and silver a copper fittings. The sheath is made of silver with a woven silver chain attached to the knife. There is piece of "stingray skin" wrapped around the middle. There is one turquoise stone decorating the sheath with two red (resin) stones that originally were red coral.The blade is made of steel. Age: late 19th Century to early 20th. Size: 17.5cm. Condition: No repairs.

Antique true linen homespun table mat in a deep indigo blue and a natural unbleached white. The mat is 12" square and has just the slightest age discoloration in one corner, see photos. This is a wonderful very early example. Circa 1830

Hand made Shaker table mat with multi colored field and a wide brown border. The mats were the product of left over scraps from the sewing rooms in Shaker communities. This mat is 13" by 15" and is in excellent condition. C. 1900

Antique Tibetan gilt bronze statue of a wrathful male and female deity in tantric Yabyum pose. The pair stands on six Naga or snakes atop a gilt bronze lotus pedestal, with copper bottom impressed by a four prong vajra. Dates from the 19th century.

19th century Chinese bamboo brushpot carved in the round with a continuous scene of Chinese scholars and peasants by rice bales under pine trees with gnarled branches, all in a setting of mountains, stream and clouds. Seven human figures, each in a distinct attitude, excellent quality carving - see the faces, robes, rocks, clusters of pine needles and textures of tree trunks. Excellent patina, compressed dust in crevices. Superb piece in scholarly taste. Height 5 3/8 inches, width 3 5/8.

19th century Chinese scholar’s root wood brush rest / scholar’s rock giving a perfect impression of a craggy mountain range with numerous crevices. Did not photograph well - photos came out too harsh. Wonderful object conveying the power of the mountains. Natural root of a tree with old cracks, nicks and scratches adding to the wild energy of the piece. Beautiful patina, powerful piece for a scholar’s table. Length 5 1/4 inches, height 2 1/4 inches.
