A very charming wise old OWL! This vase stands 12 inches tall and is 7 inches wide/diameter. The body of the owl is comprised of rough unglazed "feathers" and has glazed shiny highlights. Continental singing bird-in-cage automaton. Circa. 1900. Probably French or Swiss. Bird fashioned from real feathers, with glass eyes, and on a brass perch. Key-wind mechanism inside base of cage causes bird to sing various bird songs, while moving beak and turning head. Some loss to bird’s feathers. Musical movement is operational but sometimes hesitates, requiring a slight titling action to restore it, so probably requires some adjustment. Size: 12.5” ht.

This is a rare pair of sterling silver candlesticks made by the esteemed Mauser silver manufacturing company of New York, New York between 1887 and 1903. The candlesticks are 8" tall and the base measures 4 1/2" in diameter. The stem is weighted, and the bottom is fully hallmarked. One of the candlesticks was expertly repaired at the bottom of the stem just above the base.
