Hallmarks date this whimsical Hubert Harmon repoussé pin 1944-1948.

Before moving to Mexico in the early 1940's, Harmon had been a fashion designer who worked for Schiaparelli in Paris, and for Elizabeth Arden in New York. His designs are very unique, and as he only produced work for a short time his pieces are rarely seen.

This is a spectacular piece composed of two pins connected with a long chain. There is no end to the many ways you can wear them...

Another one of my Taller Taxco treasures, this necklace, obviously based on Salvador Teran's design, came to me with a matching bracelet (by yet a different maker) which I will be presenting in the next few days. An intriguing taller, its relationship (or lack thereof?) to Teran still remains cloudy yet its emulations of Salvador's jewelry are of the highest quality and craftsmanship. The choker at hand, a reinterpretation of a pre-Colombian motif within the context of the mid-20th c...

Classic Fred Davis Mexican Deco silver and turquoise bracelet in a design that is considered an iconic creation for the renowned designer, especially in this combination of materials. A row of repousse florets with stone hearts comfortably hugs the wrist and conforms to its movements freely. The turquoise cabs have developed an interesting variation of hues over the years which, in combination for the warmly glowing patina, adds character and a certain "life experience" to the bracelet. This is an incredible William Spratling necklace from the Mexican Silver Renaissance. Finding one of these is really a treasure due to how rare they really are but this one is even more rare due to 18kt balls in it's center and again on a thick layer of the medallion below the balls. These have been tested to 18kt. The repousse is open back and is an attribute of it's early age and the hallmarks for high silver content. The name is for MOTH and it is stunning on with 3 draped ball chains. It has...

Bearing a combination of hallmarks that dates it around 1939 this William Spratling ring is wrought in high purity .980 silver and has developed the most amazing patina during its long and - I am sure - happy life. According to Goddard, Spratling used to refer to this design as the "crowned pyramid", an appellation that makes more sense if one looks at the matching bracelet from above as it lays on a flat surface. Not an over-complicated design, it does, however, gain sculpturality and substanti...

Sometimes I find a superb vintage Mexican Silver necklace that is unsigned as this one is. I believe todays offering is an early 1930's date as signing the work was something that William Spratling really just started in his beginnings in Taxco. There is no repairs or damage of any kind and all casa...

One of Spratling's early designs, the "ring with three cascabeles" possesses the primordial charm of ambitious beginnings that are nonetheless steeped in the creativity of ancient cultures. I believe the motif is the same here as that in the tortoise shell and silver "snake" box - the more I look at it, the more I think of writhing serpents with spotted skins. The cascabeles are simply the melodious cherry that tops an already superb piece. Even though it is obvious that the ring has been resize...
