This traditional Han child's silk hat is wonderfully embroidered with floral scenes around the brim, butterflies and birds around the sections of the crown, while tassels accentuate the upturned morterboard. The long draped wind protector section at the back shows fade line...otherwise the hat is in excellant condition.

A large b/w dish, decorated with Kraak style of a pair Dragon to the center. Outside is plain. Ming dynasty 16th-17th century Swatow family or Zangzhou wares. Condition with single hairline crack to exterior, but being Y shape to interior, minor fretting to rim. Diameter: 38cm.

 

 

Chinese mid-Qing dynasty Qianlong period Dehua kiln deep plate decorated in underglaze blue on a bluish-white porcelain ground with the “phoenix flying among peonies” motif. A band of stylized leaves encircles the back rim. An unidentified rectangular underglaze blue mark is on the base. The top of the foot rim is unglazed. 10 3/4” diameter x 2 3/8” high. A fine, Japanese lotus form negoro lacquer kobako (small box.) Kobako are typically associated with incense but this box could serve as a natsume (tea caddy) though with a comparatively loose fitting lid. The fabric of this Japanese kimono is made from the very finely spun bast fibers processed from the banana like tree common on Okinawa. The delicate kasuri pattern which was woven into the fabric is typical of garments from the region. Bashofu cloth of varying quality was used for many garments which were worn by all classes in Okinawa since the sixteenth century.

Cranes flock to the shore, greeted by their compatriots grazing among dry winter grasses on the wave lapped beach of this anonymous pair of Mid Edo period six panel screens. Performed with Ink and pigment on paper with scattered gold flake in a blue silk border with kuwa (mulberry) wood frame and sturdy blue cloth backing. Fully remounted, each screen is 65 x 142 inches (165 x 361 cm). A quintessential Kano style Edo period scene.

A Momoyama-early Edo period gold screen depicting a happy god of fortune drinking while being pulled by deer in his elaborate wagon through a rocky landscape. The paper is wrinkled and creased with age, and the color worn, exuding a great sense of antiquity. The bold patterns and rich texture of the Edo period brocade border amplifies that feeling. The screen is 22-1/2 x 56 inches (57 x 142 cm) and has a shaped lacquered wood frame retaining antique paper backing with some repairs.

A Junyao cup was in bluish glaze and was decorated in the cavetto with purplish red splash.
It was in perfect condition with fine crackles revealed in the glaze.
Beige-tinted body clay was revealed at the foot ring where old feel condition was caused by incursions.

Description:

A white-glazed incense burner was mold in stem foot.
Wheel-turned in flat circular rim and with trumpet foot, this porcelain ware was in form of the characteristic metal counterpart of the dated periods or earlier.
It was in perfect condition with only one minute dent on the rim. It was caused before glazing.
Obvious burial characteristics were preserved for verification.
An old auction tag was kept.

A Jianyang Temmoko tea bowl was decorated in the cavetto with rarely-seen russet markings.
Despite the characteristic and beautiful hares-fur or oil-spots markings we've usually seen in Jianyang bowls, radiating russet markings can be a very rare type.
For this bowl, the splashed strips were all lined-up and without intermittent.
That makes the motifs in vibrant form.
Old conditions were yielded including the naturally veined crackles, the burst bubbles cause...

A beautiful and well made scholar's screen made of blackwood and having the original marble insert. Most of the marble in early pieces have been replaced. The frame for the marble has a key fret design. The base has carvings of two peaches, representing longevity, and the peony for prosperity. Age: Early 19th century. Size: H. 64cm. W. 43.5cm.
