Three fine 20th century Japanese lacquer trays. Each with boats and pine decoration in gold tones upon a dark brown ground. The trays gradually bowed and of square shape but with slightly curved sides and raised on four, shaped feet. 11 1/16" x 11 1/8" (about 28cm square). Reasonably good condition with some light abrading easily enough cared for by a specialist.

Together with another, 19th century tray (bottom portion of a box now missing its cover) with beautiful cranes decoration...

Japanese shin hanga woodblock print by Ito Yuhan (1882-1951) titled "Fuji from Taganoura" published by Nishinomiya Yosaku in the 1930's. Signed at the lower right corner of the image. The design is done with "Kaioke", the shell boxes. They were used in shell matching game, a popular game played in the Edo period (1603-1868). The design that you see here is not patchwork. The silk was dyed first leaving the areas protected, then the designs were painted on later. Some needlework was added later to enhence the design. Chinese plaque done in Qianjiang style with a crane flying over with a tree in the scene. There is a poem written in black ink in the upper left corner with a seal in iron red below it. The plaque has an overall orange-peel effect on the surface.

Condition is very good, no breaks or cracks. Some minor wear to the enamels

The size of the plaque is approximately 16-1/4" long by 10-1/2" wide
