Japanese Meiji period woodblock print depicting William Howard Taft viewing a sumo match during his 1905 diplomatic mission to Japan. With Taft weighing in at over 300 lbs., this print is likely offering a subtle comparison between Taft and the wrestler. This print is unsigned and undated. 14 3/4"V x 10 3/8"H. Very good color and impression quality. Good overall condition with pigment transference at the upper left corner, some minor soiling, and a few small holes and thinned areas...
This small intricately carved stone shoes were probably given as a gift of well wishing. 3 inches in length, they were carved from unidentified soft stone, not hard jade. There are numerous cracks and chips from age, but the shoes retain their original carving detail.

Description:
A Jizhou bowl was characteristically yielded on the surface with striking kiln effects(Yaobian).
Transparent and in flowing look, the glaze was suffused with mix tints of milky brown blue and white colours.
The bowl was finely mold in typical Wan form when flat bottom with shallow foot ring was supported underside.
Frets were found around the mouth rim and old crackles were rendered in the glaze due to age.
Date: Southern Song Dynasty, 12th century...

Two brush maneuvered characters Yue Xuan, or Moon Chamber were in the cavetto being a fine mood.
The bottom was mold in flat base when whitish body clay was revealed with brownish burial earth.
It was really rare to find a Jizhou ware in white glaze and also with inscriptions which in nice meaning on it.

Nicely squeezed and mold in shape and obtained the artistic interest.
Some similar pieces were found in Chinese documentation.
Date: Song Dynasty, 11th/12th century.

Condition: Broken in neck and re-glued. Some abrasions and debris in the glaze.

A group of human-like catfish watch as the punishment is being meted out. Golden mist shrouds the aged pines draped with wisteria growing about the crashing falls on this anonymous early Edo period gold screen. A rare scene to find, rigid lines and the lavish use of gold are typical of the first half of the Edo era. The screen features a colorful brocade border with vermilion lacquer frame and has been fully remounted without re-painting. It measures 68-1/2 x 63-1/2 inches (174 x 162 cm) and is in fine condition, showing some old repairs.

Two rare Chinese Song dynasty qingbai (yingqing) glazed porcelain dishes of chrysanthemum form with thinly potted bodies, an upturned rim divided into twelve lobed petals by vertical ribs, and flat, slightly concave unglazed bases. Circa 10th - 11th century. 4 1/8” diameter. There are a few tiny flea bites at the rim which are visible under magnification and there are a few old hairline cracks that appear to be stable...
Oversized, humorous Japanese limited edition woodblock print by Clifton Karhu (1927-2007) depicting the smiling, cross-eyed artist standing under a torn umbrella in the rain holding a broken shoe. This print illustrates the Zen saying “Hibi kore kojitsu” (Every day is a good day). The print is pencil-signed, titled “Every Day,” dated ’88, and numbered 57/100 in the lower margin. While being decorated with iron-oxide spots on the surface, the incense burner was nicely applied with two curved loops on the rim.
It was turn-wheeled when molding scars were easily observed on the body.
The belly was clamped into as gourd shape and make it in a unique look.

Han style primitive but good model of a Bixie with piercings behind the head, behind fanged teeth, and within the hind legs or tail seem intended for mounting securely as a pendant or fashion accouterment (the neckline appearing suited as a guide for silk cord.) This purse would have had a shoulder strap attached and would have been used by an adult female of the Chinese Yi ethnic minority group. All hand stitched with cross stitching embroidery and other techniques, hand made cording (string) knotted across the bottom. The bag is lined with home spun had woven fabric made from "fireweed" plant. Back is unadorned.
