Ame-yu graces the rough textured clay of this large Mingei platter from Aizu in the Northern reaches of Japan on the border between Fukushima and Yamagata. Often mistakenly identified as Tamba due to the similarity in the coloring of this particular glaze, the underlying granular white clay gives it away. About the rim is a ring of fire-colored tendrils trapped in a groove, an interesting added feature. It is 31.5 cm (12-1/2 inches) diameter and dates from the later 19th century...

Kamishimo has been the Samurai’s official attire in Edo period (1615-1868). It also
became the attire for performers of traditional music and dance, especially in Kabuki theatre during the latter part of the Edo. For rare occasions, it could still be made
for something traditional up to present time.
This Kamishimo is made out of hemp and is beautifully hand sewn. I am not quite
sure of the age and who this belonged to in the past...

Decorated on the outside with three winged dragons and classic scroll, in the central field with flying horse among clouds, lotus interlocking on the cavetto and on the flattened foliated rim with dotted diaper border. Glaze base with four characters mark in the double circle. Zhengde 1506-1521. Width = 32 cm. Condition : Excellent, no chips, hairlines, cracks and free from restorations.
Chinese Qing dynasty Qianlong period Dehua porcelain blanc-de-chine Guanyin dressed in a long flowing robe and adorned with a beaded necklace. The figure is seated upon a recumbent "hou" (Buddhist lion-like creature) and she holds a ruyi scepter. Her elegant face has downcast eyes. A faintly visible impressed gourd form seal mark is on the back of her robe. A custom wood stand is included. The glaze is a warm, creamy, glossy ivory tone. 18th century or earlier...

Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Buddhist Lotus Jar
This rare and interesting pottery jar was made between the 10th and 13th centuries, during the Five Dynasties period (AD 906 - 960), Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) or possibly the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368) and has been excavated from a Buddhist site in Yunnan province.�
It is quite "heavily-potted" and relatively highly-fired. The jar and cover have been formed with a lotus leaf design...

An amazing pattern of gold and silver maki-e decorates this lidded Tea Cup and stand dating from the later Edo period decorated with a samurai clan crest in gold. Assembled it is 7 inches (17.5 cm) tall, 6 inches (15.5 cm) diameter and in excellent condition, enclosed in a custom- fitted Kiri-wood box.
