Decorated in underglazed cobalt-blue with lotus petals filled with classic scroll on the shoulder, and a pair of lion among clouds scroll on the body and spout, with a band of lotus petals beneath. Description: An elegant celadon water basin of Longquan kiln was molded in beautiful shape. Cutting plum flowers were stick around the upper portion of the basin and at the lower portion around the foot ring. Whitish incursions and burial earth were reserved on the glaze surface when obvious brownish firing effect was at the unglazed clay. A beautiful Longquan piece was applied with fatty milky celadon glaze which was usually seen for pieces from Yuan Dynasty...

A Chinese paired apron wraparound silk gored skirt, woven in tapestry (kesi, kossu, k'o-suu) technique with some silver wrapped threads and painted details, attached to an undyed cotton waistband and trimmed by a brocaded band. The panels are showing an imperial imagery of the celestial landscape with five-clawed dragons and phoenixes, against a green ground. The "long" dragons were probably covered by peacock feathers, rarely survived to the present days...

Fine Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Female Courtier ("Fat Lady") AD 618 - 906

Perhaps the most desirable and collectable pottery sculpture from the Tang Dynasty is the female courtier, or "fat lady". This fine example was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). Extraordinary 19th century (Qing Dynasty) Chinese Manchu style silk robe embroidered in polychrome and gilt metallic threads with 8 visible 5-clawed dragons, plus one hidden dragon on the inside flap, depicted in full-face and profile poses against a blue ground. Each dragon is chasing a flaming pearl (symbolizing the Buddhist notion of enlightenment) and is surrounded by clouds and various auspicious symbols...

Large Chinese Jin Dynasty (1125-1234 AD) Honan brown glazed truncated meiping vase decorated with cut glaze concentric circular designs on the shoulders. Two strap handles flank both sides of the short neck. 11"H x 11 1/2" diameter. Very good overall condition. There are a few scattered small pit holes, which are original production imperfections (see enlargement 3). Some scratches in the glaze are evident as is typical for a piece of this age.

A gold ornament which looks like to me to be a warrior carrying a club. It's hard to date this piece, but looking at the patina on the gold I would say around 16th century.Found in Burma but could be from India. Size: 3cm x 2.5cm. Condition: No repairs.Some opening which are normal in old gold repousse work.

A polychrome dish, decorated in the center with a fish among water weeds, cavetto sides with chrysanthemum scrolls, alike motif to underside. Ming dynasty 16th century Zhengde-Jiajing phase. Condition is perfect excepted a bit warped. Diameter: 21cm.

A Chinese porcelain copper-red glazed bottle vase. The inside as well as the base glazed white. The copper red glaze thinning to just below the top rim where it was covered in gilt. The controlled glaze stops just short of the base. The base with a six character underglaze-blue Qianlong seal mark (1736-95).

Size: Approximately 10-3/4" high by 5.5" diameter

Condition: Very good condition, no breaks or cracks...

 

Japanese Meiji period woodblock print depicting William Howard Taft viewing a sumo match during his 1905 diplomatic mission to Japan. With Taft weighing in at over 300 lbs., this print is likely offering a subtle comparison between Taft and the wrestler. This print is unsigned and undated. 14 3/4"V x 10 3/8"H. Very good color and impression quality. Good overall condition with pigment transference at the upper left corner, some minor soiling, and a few small holes and thinned areas...

A celadon vase inlayed with Chrysanthemum designs by Teishitsu Gigei-In Suwa Sozan I enclosed in the original signed wooden box featuring the Imperial Art Academy Seal and titled Kiku-Zogan Hana-Ire. Tendrils of blossoming chrysanthemum climb up the sides in dark inlay on the slightly pitted celadon sueface, a perfect rendition of Korean style wares from an earlier era with the addition of the Japanese design motif. It is 10-1/4 inches (26 cm) tall and in excellent condition...

Unusually large Tibetan copper and silver or silverplate mihrab form reliquary, or portable shrine box, decorated in repousse on the cover with a pattern of abstract scrolls. The back, sides, and side handles are copper. Also called a “gau,” these prayer boxes were used to hold protective amulets, personal deities, and written prayers. A strap or belt could be attached to the side handles when traveling. Otherwise, they were usually placed on the home altar...

Rare Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Glazed Stoneware Censer

This stoneware censer was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) or possibly the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368). It is quite "heavily-potted" with both inner and outer surfaces coated in a crackled transparent olive-green glaze reminiscent of yue ware, apart from the sturdy foot that remains unglazed. To the inside centre there is kiln grit embedded within the glaze...

Chinese Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Musician (Drummer)

This fine pottery figure of a kneeling musician in the act of playing a hand-held drum was made during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). It is quite "heavily-potted" and made from a fairly high-fired pottery that has been cold-painted in a thick white pigment on top of which are traces of orange and black pigments used for highlighting the details of the clothing and facial features.

A famille rose yellow ground minyao bowl with underglaze blue Daoguang sealmark and of the period. Decorated to the exterior in vibrant enamels with four exotic blossoms, including lotus, peony, hibiscus and orchid among scrolling foliage, all on a bright lemon yellow ground. The interior left blank.
