Long Chinese Qing dynasty hardwood bench crafted with four panels on the back rest, a curved front apron, and comfortable armrests. 19th century. 74 3/4" long x 29" high (17 1/2" high to seat) x 23" deep (21 1/4" depth of seat). Very sturdy and in very good overall condition. There are some minor separations from our dry Arizona climate. There is a small wood loss and old filled crack at one side of the bottom apron. A large porcelain vase covered in olive green upon which grows a rush of white bamboo and a brief epitaph by Miura Chikusen I enclosed in the original signed wooden box dating to the late Meiji or early Taisho period. A rare okimono from the Kairakuen Kiln of the Tokugawa branch family dating from the early to mid 19th century. The box label attributes these to Eiraku (presumably Hozen, who was tasked with helping to further the ceramic production of the kiln). Made of red pottery, covered with a white slib on which the painting was applied. Some of the pigments are still remaining. H. 33 cm. Condition: very good, no traces of repair, although repairs are very common and accepted on archaeological pieces. There is paint loss and there is soil stuck to the figure. On the inside there are the remains of plant roots. A TL-test from Laboratory Kotalla confirms the authenticity of this piece. We bought three fat ladies that came from the same tomb. Please ...
